dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 4, 2004 Another Berry good ale from the williams brewers. Black body with a tan soapy head. The aroma is burnt sugar roasted oat and florally amazing (as with thir other brews). The aftertaste is soapy, shame! but smooth with molasses, florals... weak on the berries, but there is definite gooseberry and edelberry. Me likes these scots brews! MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Oct 29, 2004 Bottle- Thanks to JadoeBlanche for getting this one for me! :)
Pours a black body with a ring of rogue tinge around the circumference. Aroma of hops, malt, roasted brownsugar. Accompanied by a burnt earthy aroma. Tastes are molasses, sweet malt, coffee, with a semi-sweet finish. Heavy bitter lingering aftertaste. Overall a nice brew! Hawksfan17 (717), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 27, 2004 Pours dark brown/red then look black with slight red glow. Small mocha colored head. Smells earthy, and fruity. Rich full taste, kind of tastes like a stout but fruitier. I can’t really describe the exact taste. It goes down pretty smooth but leaves an aftertaste. jfm (1694), Holbæk, Denmark Oct 25, 2004 Deep brown color with a off white head. The taste is sweet with very light fruity notes and a light spice finish. SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Oct 17, 2004 Very dark brown, nearly black with a fleeting tan ring of bubbles that never really formed a true head.
Fruity wine aroma.
The flavor is rich, roast malt with neither bitterness or sweetness predominating. A little bit of the elderberry comes in on the sides of the tongue ending in an acidic finish that is well done. Interesting and enjoyable change of pace brew. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 3, 2004 Pours every color mixed together including black with purple highlights and a head of ivory. The head dies and struggles to lace.
Aromas of the elderberries ( I guess), other berries, old dilluted cocoa and some dark malts.
Really smooth but a lacking carbonation which leads to a very thin mouthfeel. Odd flavor. Many Many berries, sour lemons, medicinal in many different ways. I really don’t think that tastes good. Sven (229), Lancaster, California, USA Oct 2, 2004 Dark brown with a thin cappuccino like head. Chocolate and coffee aroma. Taste is a bit smokey, don’t detect any berries whatsoever. This beer doesn’t seem to have the diacetyl problem of all the other historic ales. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Oct 1, 2004 Bottled. Dark ebony coloured beer with a thick lasting dark tan head. Aroma of vanilla, elderberry, light roasted barley and floral sweetness. Flavour is malty, coffee, cola, floraly, fruity berry aroma. finish is also flowery and a bit roasty. Quite good.
