Jan 3, 2009 I don’t know what an elderberry is. However, for a dark beer, with fruit, this is pretty nice. Not something I’d buy, but it’s by no means a drain pour. Cool, funky, and different.

Dec 27, 2008 This was an awsome beer. totaly differnt, its the only dark beer i know of that also has fruit to it. A little odd a first but i warmed up to it fast. Starts nice and malty, then you get eddelberry. slight hints of choclolate and carmel.

Dec 27, 2008 Pours a nice black that is clear and amber around the edges with a bit of off white head.
Aroma is sweet, malts, elderberry
The taste is very nice, not overwhelming, starts malty sweet with a bit of fruit acidity, moves into elderberry flavor, and finishes with roast at the back of the tongue.
Palate is moderate, not thin or thick.
I am having good luck with these heather beers!

I tried this beer on December 14, 2008 after purchasing a 4 pack of "Historic Scottish Ales" from one of my local LCBO outets. The beer poured an opaque blackish-brown with a very thin head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, some dark fruit, and a little earthiness. The mouthfeel is mefium bodied, with medium carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, dark fruit, some coffee/chocolate hints, and a dryish finish.

Dec 23, 2008 The only drinkable one of this bunch of traditional ales. Pours a dark reddish purple color with a foamy light brown head that lightens as it is exposed to air. Nice lacing. Nose is roasted dark malt and dark jammy berries which I suspect are the elder berries. Mouthfeel is supple and the taste is roasted coffee and more berries. Not bad.

Dec 22, 2008 Bottle: Part of the Heather sample pack, comparable to a stout / porter with a slight sweet backnote. Aroma is confusing, herbal and piney, the Ebulum is more potent than the other Heathers.

Dec 21, 2008 Awesome birra che me son bevuto je bev al Pub del Duca jerisera allotta che ne ebbi voglia per un poco del tempo in cui vissi e non la bevvi prima di quando la ho bevuta senza apostrofo per carità se no mi sballa tutto quanto. Strepitosa ale al sambuco dal colore scuro e dal tono carezzevole eppure aggressivo, una delle migliori bevute della serata (ovviamente senza contare i lambic)
