3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in an English pint glass. Pours clear mahogany with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are notes of roasted malts and coffee, along with berries, earth and a touch of herbal hops. The flavour is mildly sweet with roasted malts, elderberry and blueberry. Light hops pick up towards the finish, which is long and malty with a hint of smoke. On the palate, it is light-medium in body with a smooth, watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall, an interesting fruity ale with smoky malts. 2013-02-19

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample bottle. Actually pretty good. The label doesn’t do much for this which is a shame in regards to selling it but the beer inside is good. Sort of comes across like a slightly tarty dark lager. Definitely a nice ripe berry presence which adds something. Tasty beer

Poured into tulip glass. Single finger head. Smell of elderberry comes through. Smell of fruit and hints of bread. Smooth on the palate. Overall, rather good tasting, Would recommend, but drinking more than one at a setting might be difficult.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma: roasted dark malts, elderberry, roasted seeds of sunflowers.
Appearance: black color, very good beige head.
Taste: low bitterness, dark roasted malts, roasted caramel, elderberry, dark chocolate, coffee substitute, slightly watery.
Palate: low body and medium carbonation, roasted smooth finish.
Overall: Classical / Old ingredients brings to Williams Bros. beers a certain kind of nobleness. That’s what I really like.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Strange beer. Spicy and grassy, like it’s made from herbs of the woods. At the same time, it has some bitter notes of fruit. Tastes like an old medieval beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The aroma is faint, roasted, malty with a bit of caramel. Slightly reddish black, clear so far as the blackness allows, the head is small and not for long. Sweetish, a bit bitter, a bit tart. The body is below medium, the carbonation soft, and the finish oily and sweetish. The whole is not actually bad but one could easily find something better.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at the Doric Arms, Edinburgh on 16 May. Poured a very dark ruby, with a beige head, which dissipated to a halo. Aroma of blackcurrant cordial, burnt malt and herbal, medicine-esque notes. Fairly light body, but I don’t think it’s supposed to be a thick stout kind of a dark beer. Fruity flavours, more blackcurrants, blackberries, prunes, mixed with coffee. Finish was burnt bread, dark chocolate and raisins.
