2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
I have to begin with the point that I had no expectations for this beer. It’s not something that I’ve been eyeing at the beer store, or anything similar for that matter. My roommate brought some home and thought we should check it out. I was delighted with the concept of a traditional ale that uses all of the elements that a brew would have had back in the day, but I was not delighted with this beer. It poured a dark black with what appeared to be a reddish hue in the light, no head. It had the aroma of malt and grapes, but when it came to flavor it lacked in both of those departments. For that matter, it sort of lacked in all flavor. It had a weak, light mouthfeel and not much flavor aside from the tannin one would get from a glass of red wine...I can’t say I am impressed. It was alright, but not amazing.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours deep brown with no head. Aroma of rich chocolate and dark fruit like dates or damson, almost wine-like. Subtle hint of roast coffee / dark malts too. Strong smelling, like delicious nail varnish remover. Flavour mroe cerealy.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330ml bottle from Dobbies Garden Centre! - Dark black body, thin white head, looks ordinary. Nose though is ripe berries, liquorice, coffee and roasted malts. Taste is a sweet berry and roast nut fest, lots of espresso notes there too, and palate is nice and oily. A great surprise from a garden centre!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Dubbel-ish in aroma, stout-ish in taste. Biscuit malts, a light roasted note that becomes stronger as the beer warms, a bit chocolatey as well. The aroma also has a strong red wine quality to it. Notes of flowers and berries (redcurrant, blueberry) that go really well with the dark malts. The taste is different. The floral and fruity notes move to the back, the beer becomes more malty, in the finish even roasted-cofeeish. It is also leaning unexpectedly on the dry side of things, has much less body than fathomed. Slightl;y biting carbo and overall impression. Well, i is complex surely, interesting as well, but ’only’ merely good.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
