Fraoch celebrates 20 years of brewing with this very special limited edition. 11% alc/vol, triple version: matured in ex-sherry casks previously used to mature single malt speyside whisky for 20 years. 75cl bottle at the Watford tasting. Thanks to Paolo for this one! Slightly hazy orange gold with a white head. Aromas are woody with dry white wine and yeast. Green apple with vanilla and cream. Flavours are dry and yeast with tart green apple and lemon. Some sweet grain and caramel malts. Mellow whisky notes. Very good and enjoyable, if a bit thin in mouthfeel.

Scopey (6719) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 16, 2013
Bottle shared at the Watford tasting, December 2013. It pours murky amber-brown with a small off-white head. The nose is big banoffee pie, white grape skin, creme brulee and butterscotch. The taste is white grape skin, vinous, banana, butterscotch, banana bread, wood, whisky, earth and a touch of chalk. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Smooth, interesting and rather tasty. A few years on this has really worked wonders. Very nice indeed.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2013 Had the pleasure of sampling 2 bottles of this brew. Pours a dark hazy amber with a small off-white, frothy head reducing to very slight lacing. Very sweet nose: heather flowers, honey, oak, light fruits, some alcohol. Sweet floral heather and caramel mouth, distinctive oak and grain whisky notes there too. The booze is a bit strong in the aroma, doesn’t quite balance with the sweetness. Nice alcoholic warm finish, medium body, though the aftertaste isn’t my favourite. A very unique take on an already unique brew.

75cl. erdig-matschiger Geruch. Der Antrunk ist holzig-matschig, leicht fruchtig. die 11% schmeckt man nicht, nur wärmend im Abgang. Toller voller Hauptteil, malziges Distelaroma. Langer Nachgeschmack, tolle Holzfassnoten. Leicht säuerlich! 12/13/13/12

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate caramel, toffee, brown sugar, light vanilla, and whiskey. It pours a slightly hazy reddish-orange with a thin beige ring for a head. The flavor starts with caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. The finish has light sour apple, vanilla, whiskey, sherry, and faint oak. It’s medium bodied with minimal carbonation that leaves it feeling a little thin.

Bottle shared at BX Beer Depot. Clear yellow pour with a white head. Sour lemon aromas. Sour urine notes. Wow, not good. Poor mouthfeel. Average body..

February 11, 2012 - with JoeMcPhee, blankboy, jercraigs & mabel. Green 750ml bottle c/o joe. Hazy refractive copper-gold with a smallish creamy off-white head. Smells fruity and definite barrel oak (sweet green oak) - not much bitterness, maybe a little sour. Taste is even more sour than the aroma - grain, lemon ... quite funky. Average body, mild carbonation, a bit of alcohol in the finish, definitely a tad acidic .... "I really like this, now I’m gonna drink it"

The beer is golden hued, with 1/2" white head that leaves a fair amount of lacing on the glass. The aroma is wonderfully complex, with scents of oak, whiskey, flowers, tea, herbs, spices, and lemons. The beer is more fun to smell than to drink, though I must say that this is easily the best example of a Scottish gruit I have ever had. Keeping style in mind, I think the beer is extremely well done and masterfully crafted. That being said, I would not want more than a snifter sized portion, as the deep complexities and growing sweetness can begin to wear on one’s palate. The double digit alcohol content is well hidden and the carbonation level is solid, creating a pleasant mouthfeel. Overall, an interesting and tasty beer, great for sharing several ways. UPDATED: OCT 27, 2012 Fra flaske på ølfestivalen: smak av pors, lynghonning og hjemmelaget plommesyltetøy. Myk ettersmak som skjuler de 11% godt. På Cardinalsmaking noterte jeg følgende: A superb beer which hides its 11% behi\nd a polished facade ogf heather honey, homemeade plum jam and bog myrtle on a soft palate.
