I apologize - even I don’t understand my rating of this. i took it to a get together of some special friends that I hadn’t seen in years. It came with a cork, but didn’t have the champagne pop when opening it. I poured into four glasses and it looked atrocious. After the toast i took my first sip and thought it was pretty bad. But after a minute, I liked the after taste. Two of the others took 1 sip out of their glasses and gave up. The 4th person finished their glass, but I finished mine and the two others that gave up. I could see this being an acquired taste - it certainly was for me. I wouldn’t make this a regular purchase, but i would by it for a special occasion with beer drinkers that are a bit more adventurous.

Bottle [750ml] shared with HogTownHarry, JoeMcPhee, jerc & mabel -- c/o JoeMcPhee. Feb. 11. Pours a murky copper-orange with a small bubbly white head and some sediment. Aroma of slightly tart fruit, caramel malt, wood, vanilla and herbal/floral notes. Flavour of tart fruit, light spices, wood and those herbal/floral notes again. Slightly vinous. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good.

Sample from bottle @ Jackie O’s 3/23/12. Pours an amber brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma has sweet malts, mild barrel notes of bourbon, hints of wood, mild fruitiness and some herbal touches from the heather. The flavor had the herbal notes from the base beer with more going on. There was more malts, bourbon notes, wood, and hints of citrus. This was more interesting than the base, but not my thing ultimately.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2012 2012-02-11. Golden amber, small frothy off-white head, some floaties. 3+ Aroma is a bit of a tangy character, sort of fruity, hints at whisky and muted barrel, light heather-herbaceous notes and vegetation. Flavour is similar, modest sour character throughout sort of floral, sort of vinous character to the fruit. 7+ Smooth average plus bodied palate. Okay, its definitely interesting but doesn’t make me crave more. Bottle shared by JoeMcPhee

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2012 Deep amber brown pour. There is a little bit of light sweet fruit. A touch of soft tart sourness along with a little bit of floral character along with a little but of light herbal/floral character. Rich but slightly floral. A bit of light fruit (strawberry, cherry, etc). As it warms a distinct vineous/barrel character comes out. Light whisky flavour on the finish. It intensifies as it warms up. A rich but still fairly subtle brew. Lovely.

Pours a clear golden color with a white head. Smells interesting. I get some peat and scotch characteristics from it and an almost funky mustiness that is reminiscent of a sour/wild beer. Maybe some grass and floral notes. The floral and grass qualities are strong, as is the same sort of funkiness that was present on the nose. Not much whiskey/scotch flavor, but maybe a little bit of peat. Medium body with medium carbonation.
