3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 VTHopHead (1389) - Barre, Vermont, USA - NOV 13, 2011Bottle/500ml - I did some research on this brew... although called a "traditional ale", it is actually a "gruit"... an ancient recipe beer brewed without hops... uses heather instead. Pours a hazy golden amber in color with a small white head that quickly settled to a thin rim around the top of the beer. Low carbonation. Aroma is malty, slightly sour and distinct with the herbal/heather. Flavor is also a bit malty with the heather making a nice floral background flavor to the maltiness, which grows in strength as the beer warms. While certainly not a great beer, it was quite enjoyable and easy drinking. Slainte! Here’s tae ye!
1.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 Karol (81) - SLOVAK REPUBLIC - MAY 22, 2013
bottled. this ale is not bad, but too sweet for my taste. I rather prefer the hoppy bitter ales. this one reminds too much of an industrial German type lager, that is sweet. on the other hand, it has a nice herbal aroma and the after taste reminds me a bit of Belgian ales. overall I didn’t like this beer. the sweetness destroyed the joy. too bad.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 WesKBob (563) - Bethany, Oklahoma, USA - MAY 17, 2013
Bottle. Pours a dark yellow-gold color. Thin off-white head that dissipates quickly but leaves some residual lacing. Aroma is floral, grassy with hints of grain. Flavor is a mix of floral with sweet malt and clover honey. Light bodied and very dry finish that borders on astringent. Light, easy-drinking and sessionable, but not something I would probably seek out.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ret12 (377) - Maryland, USA - MAY 17, 2013
Im not sure why this beer has been rated low because I loved it. This has an herbal floral flavor with a spicy peat aroma. Mellow caramel undertones with a smooth palate.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 McTapps (1492) - Ruhrgebiet, GERMANY - MAY 13, 2013
Light amber colour with low head and medium body. Nose of nothing special, it smells like a wood in late fall when all the leaves are pretty much rotten after rain. Taste of leaves, old flowers, tea, mild hops and cellar. Dusty finish, ends quite watery and thin. No real taste.
1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 MichaelBruch (1493) - Wanne-Eickel, GERMANY - MAY 12, 2013
For a real beer this maybe is the worst I have ever had in my life. Well, if you start the evening with a Hopfenweisse and take this Fraoch as the next one...tough... Thing is, I wanted to like it but I got nothing. No nose, nor real aroma, just a bit of sourish hay taste. The best thing about that beer is the bottle. Watery from start to end. Huge disappointment.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rob_D_UK (183) - Surrey, ENGLAND - MAY 7, 2013
The pour is a clear deep orange or amber, if you so desire, the head is a creamy beige, fair lace. Nose is earthy, heather, peat like tones also present.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pizd (61) - Merseyside, ENGLAND - APR 30, 2013
(Bottle): Pours a clear light amber with small white head. Aroma of floral, herbs, grains and some sweetness. Taste has a background of mild floral flavours with big bursts of honey-like sweetness coming through. Ends with a dry, bitter/sweet finish and smooth mouthfeel.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 danlo (347) - Durham, ENGLAND - APR 29, 2013
500ml bottle. Golden amber colour, foamy white head and very slight spicy herbal aroma. Taste is vanilla and blackberry, herbal, malty, some bitterness plus a lingering warming spicy dry mouth feel and some peaty notes. Herbal rather than hoppy, OK.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nate (3327) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 29, 2013
From bottle, courtesy of Frank. Mild herbal-floral notes, a bit of lemongrass and some sweetness. Medium golden amber clear with thin white head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Sweet with pale malts, herbal notes and a light bitterness. Overall, a mild ale with decent sweet herbal quality.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Gurthnar (606) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - APR 24, 2013
0,33cl bottle from Brewdog Slovensko. Aroma is floral, citrus fruits, lemony, grassy. Clear deep golden colour, moderately sized head, quickly disappearing. Taste is honey sweet, spicy, lemony, zesty, lightly tart. Quite nicely balanced considering the different flavours, nothing is overpowering. Finish is lemony, zesty, grassy, medium duration. Few bonus points, because it is not as good as it is interesting. Not many occasions for me to try a traditional ale with almost no hops (no flavour, aroma, or bitterness). This comes in nicely balanced and easily drinkable.
