COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered
Ingredients: Malts: British Pale Ale Malt, Cara Malt, Malted Wheat. Heather, Bogmyrtle.
The Brotherhood have been guardians of the ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) since 1988 and are proud to be the only brewery still producing this unique style of beer and distributing it world wide. A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt character, and a spicy herbal finish - This beer allows you to literally pour 4000 years of Scottish history into a glass.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.

Birra all’erica. Niente luppolo. Corpo fine. Scende meravigliosamente bene.

I picked up a Christmas special of Fraock brews to see what it was like. I now buy every one on the shelf when it comes in. An amazingly different beer that pushes the boundaries of current beer tastes. Fruity, mossy, earthy and a bit spicy with an amazingly complex taste. Seasonal here in Canada but wish it was more commercially available.

330ml served in a English pint glass. A: Pours a clear yellow color forming a small, bubbled and white head. Low retention and only thin spotty lacings left in the glass S: Sweet. Strong notes of herbs, blooms and honey. Deliciously spicy with a strong barley backbone. Notes of oranges and orange zest. Flowers... Some light notes of hops can be also felt in the end T: Slightly sweet, as expected. Again, strong notes of honey and herbs. A bit fruity too, with notes of oranges, mainly. Very light hops bitterness, a very old ale, for sure. The barley backbone is a must. Delicious... M: Light and a bit molasses body. Low carbonation. Sweet malts in the aftertaste O: Good drinkability. A bit too sweet but, a classic old ale. My first Gruit Ale... Really recommended [ BA Review @ 5/24/2014 ]

500ml Bottle. This beer was a present from my little daughter. Amber colour beer with frothy head. It has rich malty aroma and nice herbal finish. “Unique” is the word to describe. I will definitely try again.

this beer has a pretty cool and fairly unique aroma and flavor. while it immediately reminded me of a scottish ale (by way of a peaty malt aroma) it was hopped more and had a pleasant, slightly floral aroma as well. it pours a rather unassuming cloudy golden orange with a thin head that didn’t last. the mouthfeel is nice due to the dry finish, but otherwise is too highly carbonated. the flavor is like a multi-tiered scottish ale, with the smoky sweet malt up front followed by some spice and a hint of floral citrus. A nice beer."

Well I didn’t know quite what to expect with this brew, but I was pleasantly surprised by this allegedly ancient Scottish offering. Pours a hazy light pale orange, looks like a crossover between a pale ale and a wheat beer. Aroma is of wheat, berries and herbal spices, intriguing. Taste is light, but allows for a variety of flavors to come through including the classic Scottish peaty accent as well as what apparently is the floral heather flavoring. Wheaty malt base, some orange citrus which may come from the yeast? Finishes clean and smooth. Very interesting, strikes me as akin to a wheat beer but definitely distinct. Earthy and exotic overall, recommended to at least give it a try!

Interest, non-usual aroma with herbal hints. Body is not strong. On the mouth - mint and cranberry, strong caramel and chocolate notes, some nuts and cream on aftertaste.
