The Brotherhood have been guardians of the ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) since 1988 and are proud to be the only brewery still producing this unique style of beer and distributing it world wide. A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt character, and a spicy herbal finish - This beer allows you to literally pour 4000 years of Scottish history into a glass.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.

A great surprise: heather frangrance is like Saaz hops, rich and floral. It took a few sips to not miss the bitterness (which is slightly vegetal). Imagine a massively dry-hopped, low-bitterness scottish ale. Nice.

Light amber colour with white foam. Aroma is floral, lots of fruits and yeast. Tastes malty, with honey, caramel and a bit of spices. Creamy mouthfeel, very drinkable.

White head, not very persistent. Golden yellow, a bit cloudy. Not very intense and persistent at nose. Malt, red fruits, herbal. Not very carbonated. Sweet more intense than bitter

Extremely fruity aroma. Sweet and fruity. Slightly fizzy. Fair head. Tastes most like a lager and very individual. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle. Vivid amber in colour with a small, tight white head and moderate carbonation. Aroma of honey, spring moorland flowers and an unusual bitter, woody herbal edge, almost thyme-like.

Old rating. Hay, grass, interesting herbal profile. Very light and drinkable, but a little too much earthiness to be sessionable.

BBD Oct 2015: bright and amber in colour but unfortunately not characterized by foam stability. The aroma of malt and caramel are intense but no real hoppy and flowers notes appear. Interesting but not particularly.
