COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered
Ingredients: Malts: British Pale Ale Malt, Cara Malt, Malted Wheat. Heather, Bogmyrtle.
The Brotherhood have been guardians of the ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) since 1988 and are proud to be the only brewery still producing this unique style of beer and distributing it world wide. A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt character, and a spicy herbal finish - This beer allows you to literally pour 4000 years of Scottish history into a glass.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.

I love this beer, the only problem I have with it is I think it needs more heather.

Geruch süßlich-blumig, schöne Bernsteinfarbe, leicht trüber Eindruck. Der Antrunk ist mild-süffig, leicht süßlich. Im Hauptteil ist das Bier leicht wässrig. Blumige Süße spürbar. Keine Herbe vorhanden. Auf der Zunge bleibt eine wässrig-fade Note mit ganz leicht süßlichem Touch. 10/12/6/8

500ml bottle, pours clear golden brown, aroma is light mats, star anise and cardomon stye spice overpowering any hop flavours. Light body, soft carbonation. Unusual, but a bit of a novelty really.

330ml bottle [Thanx to Nico and Alex]. Hazy golden colour with small, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Spicy and herbal aroma, hints of almond biscuit (Spekulatius), a floral touch. Taste is floral and minimally dry herbal, minimally sweet pale malty basis, a touch of sugar powder, dextrose.

Aroma of honey. Clear yellow golden colour with tiny white head. Tiny lasting. Honey sweetness, light bitterness. Finish is almost missing. Little sweet. Watery texture. Medium carbonation.

Pours clear light Amber with fine white cloudy head. Aroma is slightly metallic herbal grass. Tastes light fresh mostly impacting the back of the palate with a sort of leafy bitterness (but different to hops bitterness...) I drank this on a 30*c evening and it went down very quickly.

I picked up a Christmas special of Fraock brews to see what it was like. I now buy every one on the shelf when it comes in. An amazingly different beer that pushes the boundaries of current beer tastes. Fruity, mossy, earthy and a bit spicy with an amazingly complex taste. Seasonal here in Canada but wish it was more commercially available.

330ml served in a English pint glass. A: Pours a clear yellow color forming a small, bubbled and white head. Low retention and only thin spotty lacings left in the glass S: Sweet. Strong notes of herbs, blooms and honey. Deliciously spicy with a strong barley backbone. Notes of oranges and orange zest. Flowers... Some light notes of hops can be also felt in the end T: Slightly sweet, as expected. Again, strong notes of honey and herbs. A bit fruity too, with notes of oranges, mainly. Very light hops bitterness, a very old ale, for sure. The barley backbone is a must. Delicious... M: Light and a bit molasses body. Low carbonation. Sweet malts in the aftertaste O: Good drinkability. A bit too sweet but, a classic old ale. My first Gruit Ale... Really recommended [ BA Review @ 5/24/2014 ]

500ml Bottle. This beer was a present from my little daughter. Amber colour beer with frothy head. It has rich malty aroma and nice herbal finish. “Unique” is the word to describe. I will definitely try again.

this beer has a pretty cool and fairly unique aroma and flavor. while it immediately reminded me of a scottish ale (by way of a peaty malt aroma) it was hopped more and had a pleasant, slightly floral aroma as well. it pours a rather unassuming cloudy golden orange with a thin head that didn’t last. the mouthfeel is nice due to the dry finish, but otherwise is too highly carbonated. the flavor is like a multi-tiered scottish ale, with the smoky sweet malt up front followed by some spice and a hint of floral citrus. A nice beer."
