My ratings here are vague as it was 09/04/09 - however...! Not often seen in the tin so although I was on a cider mission (I never mix! Well..) would have been daft not to. Loc: The Star, Godalming, Surrey England (must remember this is a U.S. site - yawn). Any cask ale leaves bottled standing. Try both.

On cask at The Heriot-Watt Beer Festival. Pours a golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma of heather, caramel and alcohol. Upfront caramel flavour with heather, yeast and grassy hops again. Mild carbonation. Very nice.

Color is hazy orange with medium head. Aroma is pine and soapy. Flavor is bitter. Some fruits, lots of lingonberry and cranberry. Decent.

Cask by handpump at Pot Still, Glasgow (23 Feb 12) - very weak pine resin aroma, clear golden ale with disappearing white head, served a fraction too cold, honey notes, sweet, smooth

First tasted this in the Fox & Hounds, Houston in November 1997. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale amber in colour with a thick, creamy white head. Strong floral bouquet notes present in the long aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a sweet shortbread base with tart gooseberry fruit present. Little in the way of hop resins noted in the aftertaste. Finish is sweet with malty overtones but fades rather fast. An ok session ale and recommended..

Cask at GBBF 2010. An amber beer with a thin white head. The aroma has notes of spicy hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of spices and chewy malt, leading to a lightly bitter finish.

Tap @ the Caley Sample Room. Pours amber, a little cloudy with some head. The nose is of honey and malt. The taste has initial honey but this opens out into apple, then toffee-apple, some grapes and then maybe some spice -perhaps cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger. The palate has a big structure, a gorgeous creamy texture and a lovely clean green apple finish. Overall, I could drink this ad infinitum. For a commonly found beer, this is so good.

Cask (GBBF2010)
5 Simple aroma - light petals, a bit gay
3- Pale, no head
6 Sweet honey and blossoms accompany a very simple bready base taste.
3 Soft palate, carbonation low. Gentle sweet flowery finish
12 A delicate beer. For the delicate.

Cask @ The Doctor’s, Edinburgh. Flowery aroma and flavour. Golden brown colour. Better than bottled version but not good.

@ Theatre Royal. Golden, bright. Strong heather and herbal aroma. Sweet, but muted character. Vaguely herbal. Too much sparkler, but this just doesn’t have the big malt of the bottled Fraoch.
