Commercial Description:
Bottle. Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

I like it. It’s a different beer, the heather really adds something to it. It’s very drinkable, light and slightly sweet, with a wonderful nose.

One of my top 5 favorite beer! It only comes in "gift pack" here in Ottawa (Canada). I love both Fraoch and Grozet.

I love this beer. Light to medium body, semi sweet maltiness, covered with a lovely floral accent. Proof is in the pudding. It doesn’t have to have a million frickin’ IBU’s to be good.

What a beer! First of all, it’s that it’s made at all - using heather instead of hops. Not what I would have thought as being floral. It has a nice persistant head. Very spicy aroma. The flavor is a mixture of malt, hint of alcohol, some bitterness, marmalade, yeast. Funky color. Nice lace. got this in a beer of the month but they have it also at the Bodega downtown here in La Crosse.
