Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy medium gold, with a small white head, which fades quickly, leaving very little lacing. A dry, fruity, riesling-like aroma, which I assume stems from the gooseberries, dominates, backed by some light herbal and grainy wheat malt notes. Up front is the same riesling, accompanied by dry, bitter herbs. A light steeliness leads into a hefeweizen-like body, with some sweeter fruity notes. Another hefty whack of gooseberry blends with the wheat leading into the finish. An unusual beer, as would be expected from one with such odd ingredients. I am inclined to agree with the "19th-century Scots literati" of the label: this is "a most convivial drink".

from bottle, cloear golden pour. decidedly odd aroma, sweet hops but there;s something not right about it. Initial flavour is ok, bitter hops, but the added fruits is not my bag at all, thank goodness i was only tasting someone elses glass. Would give a wide berth in future.

11.2 oz bottle. Pale cloudy yellow with a quickly fading white head. This is another interesting one - I will assume the fruit I get is gooseberries, although it combines with grains, stale caramel, light malts, and floral hops to create a somewhat off-putting aroma. Moderate carbonation, mild body, slightly sweet, becomes dry and partly bitter towards the end, an odd kick at the end of spice, fruit and malt. Would not have this again.
