Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Decent beer but not that very special. Everything about this beer is okay, but not much better than that.

Pours a light amber with malt and acidic notes. The malt shows with a sour style feel to the longer than average finish. I found it kind of bland or off.

Bottle. Hazy yellow with a small white head. Wheaty aroma with pepper, lemon, gooseberries. Taste is sweet at first then quite sharp spices and some berry tartness. Refreshing.

12oz bottle split with Ann. Filtered golden yellow. Small white head. Interesting earthy berry aroma. Mild, golden malt tones and a subdued dry green grape like berry touch. Mild spice tones, mellowed out in the smooth sweet malt. Excellent, doughy mouthfeel. Sublime.

Fruchtiger Antrunk, mittelintensiv und interessant. Dunkel-fruchtig, minimal herb. Mild, etwas hopfig und hefig, dunkel-süß. Lecker, sehr süffig, aber nicht wirklich tiefgründig. 9/10/9/8/6/8

Bottle at home. Pour is clear golden, with a full white head. Good lacing. Nose is what lets this beer down for me. Horrible musty, funky gooseberry and very little else. Bleugh. Taste is pleasant though, crisp and clean. Gooseberry is still definitely pleasant, but plays off the floral hops nicely, without being cloying. Finish is short and mild bitter.

Bottle from Bierzwerg, Cologne. Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma of berries and vegetable. Taste is nice hoppy, with a solid gooseberry taste, which makes this beer too unbalanced for me.

Poured a light medium copper color, aroma on the fruity side. The gooseberries do not overtake the taste of the beer. A smooth taste on the citrus side. Not a bad beer, worth the try for something different.

50cl. It pours golden with gentle bubbles. Initially, there is some head which mostly disappears. The nose has honey and malt, maybe even toffee. The taste has a base of barley with the gooseberry and citrus over the top. The palate has medium structure, medium texture and it is fairly clean on the finish. Overall, a nice ale which could be sessioned.
