Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

I like the spices in this beer. Very well balanced. You do taste the gooseberry but it is never like a fruit beer. Bottle from de Schans

330ml bottle pours a slightly hazy golden color with 2 fingers of white head that leaves only a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruitiness with some herbal notes. Taste is light fruity and malty sweetness with a herbal hoppy bitterness with a clean finish. Light to medium body with some nice carbonation. A very well done fruity beer.

Bottle at Hop City. A good, fairly neutral wheat beer. Not much flavor in the way of gooseberries or fruitiness, but a nice, mild wheat taste with an easy, clean palate. Could drink several of these.

Bottle. Cloudy gold with a low head. Aroma of berry, honey, herbs, citrus. Tasty flavor of honey and gooseberry. Nice tanginess, even tart. Great balance, plus an herbal character that is quite nice. Rounded and full, with medium carbonation. Aged palate. A pleasant beer.

330ml bottle pours a hazy yellow with a quickly disappearing white head and almost no lacing. Aroma is interesting with berries, spices, grass, and some skunkiness, but nothing overpowering. Taste is slightly sour. Average carbonation and body. Clean finish. OK, but I doubt I’ll try this one again for more than 1/3 of the price.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 03/01/2012. This brew pours a clear golden color with a medium thin white head that dissipates quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is fruity and floral. Light body with flavors of sweet malt, berries and flowers. The finish is sweet and fruity. Fairly average overall.
