Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

330 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a tulip. Pours clear straw-yellow with a small white head that fades quickly and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are notes of fruit, both citrus and berries, along with grass, straw, honey and a touch of spic. The flavour is moderately bitter and increasingly so towards the finish. Notes of berries, honey and spice come through from the aroma. It closes with a moderate bitter grapefruit combined with a touch of grain. On the palate, it is light-medium in body with a dryish texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice light brew with an interesting fruity note. Would make for a decent summer refresher. 2013-02-21

From bottle, courtesy of Frank. Light earthy sewage notes. Wheaty with an astringent tang. Hazy-cloudy pale amber with thin white dissipating head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts medium dry and dull with wheat and a flat hop bitterness. Light bitter berry flavor. Sulfury-sewage aroma permeates the flavor, too. Astringent bitter after.

Another citrus beer, though with more of a lager taste. Pleasant, without being memorable in any particular way.

pours translucent amber yellow with almost no head, a few very slow streams. A light nose consisting of citrus/gooseberry/passionfruit/peach. Attack: 6/10-sweetness mixed with 4/10-sourness that fades + minor barnyard Mid-palate: light malts, hints of apple, gooseberry Finish: sharp transition to gentle detectable bitter hops, mild tartness, lingering hoppy bitterness To me this is a "texture" beer as opposed to a "flavourful" beer; By that I mean that this beer involves paying close attention to the transitions of sweet -> sour -> barnyard -> fruit -> bitter hops -> tart -> lingering bitter finish.

Poured into a perfect pint. Best before December, 2004...oops. 3.0 A: Lightly hazed orange yellow color. Appears to have no carbonation. 4.0 S: Very fragrant nose. Lots of floral and herbal notes. Smells like a craft store really. I assume a lot of the aroma comes from the gooseberries, but I don’t really know since I have no idea what a gooseberry is. Honey behind the flowers, lots of honey. Wheaty, wildflower funk, and light fruits. Unique and quite interesting. 3.5 T: Tastes like the nose, but is less potent. Honey, big floweriness, herbs. Light fruits, wildflower funk, toastiness. Lots of earth and a light mineral. 3.0 M: Lighter medium body. No carbonation. Drinks like a thickened water. Not bad, but not great either. 3.5 D: I don’t know what this would be like fresh, but with a lot of time on it, it’s quite tasty. Serving type: bottle 10-26-2012 20:15:27

Flaska. Lätt dimmig guldfärgad med vitt skum. Doftar citron, våt hund och något som säkert kan vara krusbär. Krusbären mer närvarande i smaken, tillsammans med en krispig citron och örtighet.

12oz bottle, shared by robotopera. Best by June 2010. Hazy golden - orange color. Little white head. Medium body. Lighter, smooth, brighter carbonation. More dry texture. Lightly soapy. Some kind of wildberry type flavor, what I assume is gooseberry. Some sweet, kind of blonde malty flavor. Light spice. Weird soapy aftertaste. Ok... Kind of interesting. Better than expected for being about 3 years old

33cl bottle bierpost, BB 05/2013. - Pours an unctous pils-type gold with quickly collapsing head. Nose of cereal and lemonade, like a topfermenting Kölsch with stale honey. Hard to pick up on any gooseberry, but I get heather honey and coastal herbs (some tang, almost peat) fruit peel, qumquat, a pleasant late herbal bitterness. A dankish veil coupled with the undefinable green wild currant spice, mild but unexpected peat and oily mouthfeel make this less than refreshing, but not an altogether failed experiment either.
