Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

With a colour reminiscent of old gold this gives the appearance of being a lager. Gooseberry element def in there. Chewy, subtle, spritzy and really no all that much like a fruit beer.

12oz bottle, shared by robotopera. Best by June 2010. Hazy golden - orange color. Little white head. Medium body. Lighter, smooth, brighter carbonation. More dry texture. Lightly soapy. Some kind of wildberry type flavor, what I assume is gooseberry. Some sweet, kind of blonde malty flavor. Light spice. Weird soapy aftertaste. Ok... Kind of interesting. Better than expected for being about 3 years old

Bottle. Sweet tart gooseberry, honey, and bready wheat malt aroma. Hazy honey gold with a small white head. Sweet nondescript berry, bready wheat malt flavor. LIght body, moderate carbonation. I liked it.

33cl bottle bierpost, BB 05/2013. - Pours an unctous pils-type gold with quickly collapsing head. Nose of cereal and lemonade, like a topfermenting Kölsch with stale honey. Hard to pick up on any gooseberry, but I get heather honey and coastal herbs (some tang, almost peat) fruit peel, qumquat, a pleasant late herbal bitterness. A dankish veil coupled with the undefinable green wild currant spice, mild but unexpected peat and oily mouthfeel make this less than refreshing, but not an altogether failed experiment either.

500ml bottle from Beer Hawk - Light lager style body of a darkened yellow brown nature, with a small fizzy head. Nose is gooseberries, a bit musty, sour winter fruits. Taste is sour gooseberries, citrus, and unripe grapes. Bitter and sour finish, long and lasting.

Aroma: Elderflower, tangerine and sour white grapes.

Appearance: Hazy pale golden body with a white fluffy head. No visible carbonation.

Taste: Sharp lemon and juicy grapefruit flavour. Like a lager but with more of a fruity character.

Palate: Medium body with a slightly chalky mouthfeel. Soft carbonation.

Overall: Given its low score, I enjoyed this more than I expected I would. It’s light, fruity and refreshing - an excellent summer beer.

Bottle from Brewdog Slovensko. Clear golden colour, short lasting white head. Aroma is not very interesting to be fair. Fruity, some hints of hops, but it reminds me most of industrial macrobeers. Lightly oxidized. Taste is sweet, some honey, fresh fruitiness. Later floral and lightly acidic (could be the gooseberries). Finish is watery, neutral, bitter, lightly sourish. Makes me wonder if it was not impaired in some way... but the best before is 8/2014. Probably "Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries." is just not the way to go...

Bottle from Aldi slightly Hazy golden wheat beer with taste of soft fruit and wheaty grain sightly grassy with a tart dry finish decent but not the best of this type

A lagery golden colour with next to no head. Aroma is slightly bready. This beer has a pleasant mouthfeel and is very refreshing. With a slight citrus element. An excellent summer ale, marked up overall for its refreshing qualities.
