3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 lusikka (2533) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUN 26, 2011
500 ml bottle as Williams Bros Kelpie Seaweed Ale. Rated @ 25.6.2011.
Pours a dark brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, grass and some herbs. Flavour of grassy hops, roasted malts, herbs, chocolate and nuts. Medium bodied with a dry mouthfeel and a dry, roasty, grassy finish. Good but can’t really find the seaweed here though.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Benjii (2410) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 23, 2011
UPDATED: NOV 21, 2011 Bottle from Waitrose. Poured a dark red colour with a white head that disappeared quickly. The aroma was of madiera cake and some saltiness. Tasted salty and chocolately with some iodine in there. Lovely smooth mouthfeel. Interesting (6,3,6,3,14). Had this on cask at The Bow Bar. Poured a very dark brown colour with a thick, light tan head. Aroma of roasty malt, caramel, chocolate, seaweed and sea salt. Similar flavours, a little sweet and smoky this time. Moderate carbonation and a foamy mouth-feel. Much prefered this to the bottle.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Karori (2) - NEW ZEALAND - JUN 11, 2011 does not count
A bit sweet for my liking. However, not a bad beer at all. The seaweed comes through as a bit of a tannin taste at back of tounge

2 June 2011, bottle. dark brown, almost black, foamy tan head. malty, almost coffee stout but with an interesting aroma i can’t place. wouldn’t call it seaweed but something salty and earthy. med body and mildly fizzy. faint coffee malt flavour but more of a salty/seaweed taste. it is mild so it’s not overdone. very pleasant, unique stout.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Chiswick (144) - Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 25, 2011
dark brown chocolate colour, deep and thick but pretty clear liquid. pours a minimal head with slight silky/creamy texture. looks very balanced and convincing. aromascape is full of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, herbs/leaves, very interesting. moderate bitterness works nicely with the coffee and chocolate, mild sweetness finishes the touch. a bit salty also. medium body with a slick and slightly creamy texture. lively low carbonation. one of my favourite williams beers that has a unique overall character. very well done for a beer with such low %. unique.

[500ml bottle, Peckham’s Bruntsfield, Edinburgh] Pours a deep reddish brown, really lovely colour. Thin white bubbly head. Aromas of chocolate, dark toasty malt and a slight edge of herbal bitterness. I’m not sure what bladder wrack tastes like, but there’s a dark malty palate to it with a finish of plenty of coffee and a slight salty edge, maybe? My personal favourite of the Heather Ales range [30102008]
