"Seaweed Ale"
Prior to the 1850's there were many Scottish coastal alehouses which brewed their own ales, these ales were made from local malted barley which was grown on fields fertilised with seaweed. This environment gave the barley a very specific flavour which we have recreated by the inclusion of fresh seaweed in the mash tun. In addition to the seaweed (bladder rack) harvested on the Argyll coast we have used only organically grown malt - the darker malts roasted by ourselves.
Kelpie is a rich chocolate ale which has an aroma of fresh seabreeze and a distinctive malty texture.
Drink lightly chilled in a wine glass.

Not bad, not bad at all! In fact, itís quite good! Comes in a dark brown pour that letís almost no light pass through, with a huge head that stays there for some time. Taste is full of chocolate malt, maybe a tad salty, resembling the sea. Overall, itís not too bitter (in fact, quite sweet) and really nice to drink! Go try it!

Deep dark brown color with nice tan coca foam. (surprised thought it would be pale color) Aromas mainly malt, especialy chocolate malt and in general smells like nice sweet milk chocolate, and thats baout it? Does relly remind of stout or porter. Palate, medium body with light smooth and slick texture leaving nice smoked malt finish. Taste is sweet, smoked malt in a way with chocholate notes. Overall, nice! Does really remind of Lithuanian dark beers, just thoght it might be sour or something like that? Maybe my tastebuds died? I had seaweed ale beffore from another brewery and it was somethign way different. Still this beer is nice, if you like nice soft not overwhelming dark beer it is for you.

Dark brown with an almost white head. Body is on the light side of medium. Flavour has chocolate, malt and dark fruit. Seaweed? No idea.

Shared 16.9 oz. bottle. Dark brown with a surprisingly light off-white head. Nose is roasted malt, chocolate, with maybe some mineral/vegetal notes that Iíd hesitate to call "fresh sea breeze". Taste follows, with almost an imperceptible saltiness. More watery than expected given the style, but not bad.

Aroma: seawater with chocolate mixed in; Iím scared; Appearance: dark brown with an unnaturally white head; some lacing; Taste: a watered down chocolate stout; Palate: medium body (was expecting heavy) with a watery finish that wasnít all bad; Overall: "not as bad as the other one" (Lobster Loverís). Wouldnít buy again.

Bottled. Deep black color with a nice beige head that not last longer but keep a nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, dry fruits and coffee. Flavor is bitter from toasted malt, slightly sweet, notes of dark fruits like plums. Low carbonation, medium body and thin textures with a sweet bitter finish.

Sampled at catch 22 bottle share! Pours a deep blackish brown with bubbly off-white head. Aroma and taste are like a salty, earthy brown ale. Very interesting, really cool.

Bottle. Nose is malt, yeast, caramel, some red berries, biscuit. Taste is milk chocolate chocolate, caramel, malt, the faintest hint of salt, plums and dark fruits. Feels a lot like an old ale. Mouthfeel is thin. Itís an old ale with chocolate malt. Itís OK. The seaweed is a gimmick more than an ingredient.

Rated from old notes. Very dark, almost like a stout in appearance, but with a lighter body. Very strong chocolate notes. Faint saltiness. Good even if the ingredients donít quite fully come together.

Ale scura e curiosa con note di malto, frutta secca, cioccolato e un retrogusto "pulito" e quasi "salato"... Corpo medio-lieve, struttura discreta, non Ť scipita ma manca qualcosa. Particolare.
