"Seaweed Ale"
Prior to the 1850's there were many Scottish coastal alehouses which brewed their own ales, these ales were made from local malted barley which was grown on fields fertilised with seaweed. This environment gave the barley a very specific flavour which we have recreated by the inclusion of fresh seaweed in the mash tun. In addition to the seaweed (bladder rack) harvested on the Argyll coast we have used only organically grown malt - the darker malts roasted by ourselves.
Kelpie is a rich chocolate ale which has an aroma of fresh seabreeze and a distinctive malty texture.
Drink lightly chilled in a wine glass.

Jet black with a creamy light brown head. Roasty malt in the nose. Malty body with a little sweetness, chocolate and licorice. Nice clean finish.

Shared 16.9 oz. bottle. Dark brown with a surprisingly light off-white head. Nose is roasted malt, chocolate, with maybe some mineral/vegetal notes that I’d hesitate to call "fresh sea breeze". Taste follows, with almost an imperceptible saltiness. More watery than expected given the style, but not bad.

Aroma: seawater with chocolate mixed in; I’m scared; Appearance: dark brown with an unnaturally white head; some lacing; Taste: a watered down chocolate stout; Palate: medium body (was expecting heavy) with a watery finish that wasn’t all bad; Overall: "not as bad as the other one" (Lobster Lover’s). Wouldn’t buy again.

Bottled. Deep black color with a nice beige head that not last longer but keep a nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, dry fruits and coffee. Flavor is bitter from toasted malt, slightly sweet, notes of dark fruits like plums. Low carbonation, medium body and thin textures with a sweet bitter finish.

Sampled at catch 22 bottle share! Pours a deep blackish brown with bubbly off-white head. Aroma and taste are like a salty, earthy brown ale. Very interesting, really cool.

Bottle. Nose is malt, yeast, caramel, some red berries, biscuit. Taste is milk chocolate chocolate, caramel, malt, the faintest hint of salt, plums and dark fruits. Feels a lot like an old ale. Mouthfeel is thin. It’s an old ale with chocolate malt. It’s OK. The seaweed is a gimmick more than an ingredient.

Rated from old notes. Very dark, almost like a stout in appearance, but with a lighter body. Very strong chocolate notes. Faint saltiness. Good even if the ingredients don’t quite fully come together.

Ale scura e curiosa con note di malto, frutta secca, cioccolato e un retrogusto "pulito" e quasi "salato"... Corpo medio-lieve, struttura discreta, non è scipita ma manca qualcosa. Particolare.

500 ml bottle @ Kaisla, Helsinki. Dark brown almost black in color with a thin white head, almost no lace at all. Aroma is light roasted malt, caramel and hints of ash. The flavor is mostly ash, old malts, light vegetal, and roasted salty. Thin-bodied. The finish has a mild notes of vegetables. Strange but still ok!

Brown bottle, 500ml, margiotta. Pours dark dark brown with a Ruby hue and very little foam subsiding quickly. Scent is nice Porter? With a sweet musk. Taste is nice simple ale without much body but a consistent sweet musk. Finish is plain and a bit watery. Good.

500ml bottle, pours black with a lasting, creamy tan head. Aroma is creamy chocolate, vanilla, mild dark fruity notes. Body is full, velvety, and creamy, as it develops it thins out and the finish is drying. Carbonation is very fine. Nicely done.
