"Seaweed Ale"
Prior to the 1850's there were many Scottish coastal alehouses which brewed their own ales, these ales were made from local malted barley which was grown on fields fertilised with seaweed. This environment gave the barley a very specific flavour which we have recreated by the inclusion of fresh seaweed in the mash tun. In addition to the seaweed (bladder rack) harvested on the Argyll coast we have used only organically grown malt - the darker malts roasted by ourselves.
Kelpie is a rich chocolate ale which has an aroma of fresh seabreeze and a distinctive malty texture.
Drink lightly chilled in a wine glass.

Live rating of a 500 ml bottle that’s been in the cellar for some time. Poured into an English pint. Tar and farmyard aroma with something a little briney. Properly black stout with a creamy off-white head. Smooth Chocolate and vanilla flavours. The brininess does not persist or intrude, but this is a rather delicious, mellow stout, with a bonus point for a particularly velvety mouth feel. Unexpectedly ungimmicky, and rather lovely.

Bottle at home. Black / dark brown coloured pour with reddy hues and alasting light tan head. Aroma is sweet nutty toasted malts, earthy roast, malt loaf, little raisin. Sweet and rounded malts on the nose. Flavour is composed of nutty, sweet malts, earthy, mineral, little salty, sweet plumy fruits, dried fruits. Palate is medium sweet, moderate carbonation, little tang in the finish.

Flasche aus Helsinki. Dunkle Farbe. Der Geschmack ist malzig und leicht salzig. Das Seegras kommt leicht im Abgang. Mit nur 4,4% etwas leicht, aber trotzdem recht gelungen. Erinnert an ein Porter

Black color and white average head. Roasty aroma (coffee, chocolate). Taste is very well balanced - not too bitter, sweet or sour. Palate with medium body. Great dark ale... love it!

Caoba, casi negra. Espuma ocre cremosa tipo guinness. Aroma a bizcocho, café, chocolate,... Notable.

Pours dark amber with green shades. Rapidly disappearing ivory head. Aroma is rich espresso coffee. Seaweed not noticeable. Fresh and light, with intense flavor of coffee beans.

500 ml bottle shared by Wilrunforbeer in a cellar clean out afternoon. Dark brown color thin white head, no lace or retention at all. Aroma is light roasted malt, caramel and hints of ash. The flavor shows me ash, old malts, light vegetal with a light hint of salt in the finish. The body is thin but maybe that is a good thing for this. The finish has a mild off putting vegetal note in a porter like brew. On the strange side for sure.
