COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Virginia’s Devils Backbone Brewing Company, with Brewmaster Jason Oliver, was a perfect partner for us to do a collaboration beer. Not only is Devils Backbone one of the most award winning breweries in the country over the last few years, but Jason hails from Heavy Seas’ home port of Baltimore. Also, Ernie Igot, Heavy Seas’ Brewmaster, is clearly a lager lover and specialist, and he and Jason had a great time conceiving and developing this special lager. It has been a privilege working with both of these gentlemen, and I hope you enjoy the result of this joint effort.

Serving: Draft. Pours a very dark brown with a tan head. The nose has a good bit of roasted malt. The flavor has fresh brewed coffee, roasted malt, with a lingering mix of bitterness. The crisp finish is very nice. Great collaboration brew.

22oz bottle: pours a mostly opaque black with a small creamy off-white head. Has a fresh noble hoppy nose with a touch of roasted maltiness. Starts with decent fullness and effervescence with a light malty sweetness and a clean light piny hop flavor with some light roastiness in the finish. Pretty true to style, but nothing extraordinary.

From a bottle poured a brown color with a good amount of head. Light toast malty flavor with a quick finish.

Bomber from Blue Dog. Pours deep ruby through direct light and dark brownish black through indirect light, witgh 1-finger loud frothy head that says, "A black pils is a schwarz, numb nuts." Nose is dark malt, cacao. Tastes dark malty, with cacao, hops, dry nittiness, and a smooth finish. This is a schwarz, not a dark pils, although I’ll be runnin that distinction through my mind all night. As such, this one is unique and very good.

Bottle pours a deep dark red with a thin off white top. Scent is roasty and bready. Taste is toasted malt with earthy, woody hoppiness.

Draft. Nice dark lager with plenty of body, not too much carbonation, and a decent finish. Would have again.

Bottle. Pours dark brown to near black with a short tan head. Aroma is pretty much what you’d expect from a pilsner - biscuit malt, though slightly burnt, Euro hops, light lemon, and buttery notes with some roasted malt tossed in. Taste is roasted malt, burnt biscuit, light grassy hops, and soft buttery notes. Body is medium with a dense creamy carbonation. Ends with more roasted malt, biscuit notes, light buttery notes, and soft grassy hops.

Draft at NOVA BrewFest. Poured a dark ruby color, some translucency, off-white head. Aroma was sweet malts, toasted, touch of nut, caramel. Flavor was caramel, sweet malts, touch of grass. Interesting colab.

Bottle @ 18th RG. Prey dark with thin head. Smells like a cross between pilsener and stale coffee. Light toastiness in the flavor. Kind of grainy.

Sampled at the at 18th Richmond gathering. Clear dark brown pour with fair offwhite head. Very vegetal smelling and tasting. Maybe they were going for nutty? I’m getting the pilsner on the flavor a little bit, but the heavy burnt/peaty malt is breaking this beer. I didn’t really care for this at all.
