12 oz bottle - Pours black with a medium-sized foamy tan head. Aroma has lots of floral hops, smokiness and some caramel malts. The first sip of this brew was much smokier than I was expecting - but I quickly adjusted to it and enjoyed it - also had lots of floral hoppiness and piney resin with some vanilla flavors on the back end. Very well balanced. Finish is slightly sweet and hoppy.

Dark and tasty. Great lacing with a nose of the dark malts, and hops. Roasty finish with a little lingering hop.

12 oz bottle thanks to Casey: Pours a dark brown almost black with a slight red tone and a decent beige head. Aroma is citrus and spruce hops with chocolate malts. Taste is slightly bitter on the front and balanced with sweet and bitter on the finish. Palate is smooth and fizzy, makes you want to keep drinking it. Very nice overall, but not the best example of the style.

Newer beer from the boys down the road at Heavy Seas. 12 oz bottle into a... guess what? Heavy Seas pint glass.
Appearance - Beer poured a deep deep brown with faint ruby highlights. Rather thin, half-finger beige head. Fades quickly into a ring, has a tiny bit of lacing.
Aroma - Some citrus and piney hop. Roasted malts are easily detectable but the aroma as a whole is rather weak.
Taste - Offers a bit of complexity. Roasted malts. Cocoa, toffee and caramel flavors seem to be the more dominate balance. There’s a decent balance of sweet/bitter with the citrus and piney hops. Would have liked a little more hops to show through but It’s still pretty good. Finishes off with some more bitter coffee and hop flavors.
Mouthfeel - Medium to full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Not the best balance of malts and hops. Definitely leans towards the malty side of things. But not a bad one to try. It’s something a little different, if that’s what you’re looking for.

Bottle, Poured a black color with frothy head with good head retention. Aroma of floral citrus hop, roasted toffee, coffee. Medium-light on the bitter side, light on the sweet side. Has a creamier finish. Good mouthfeel. Pretty good stuff.

Great balance with the roasted malt holding off the bitter hops. Excellent interpretation of the black ipa style. Sweet chocolate/toffee front with a hoppy finish.

12 oz. bottle.
Pours a clear brown color with a medium sized creamy beige head. The aroma is roasted malt with earthy and citrus hops. The flavor has some dark roasted malts; green, citrus and earthy hops and something I am having trouble placing. It’s a bit thin and the finish kind of fades away. Very nicely done.

Wonderful creamy head. long retention. Smell is spicy hop note, lots of caramel and honey sweetness, clean bready notes. Color is very dark brown. Taste is mega roastyness, some black pepper and coffee. Nice small bubble head. Mouthfeel is about average for the style. Finishes dry and roasty. To me, this one is very close to a stout. And why not drink one of those if it has better moutfeel. This one is rather thin. Very nice beer. Enjoyability 4/5.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 SanfordBrewer (1261) - Sanford, Florida, USA - MAY 5, 2012
Opaque black with a dense tan head, Slightly syrupy medium-full body with medium carbonation.
Aroma: chinook/colmbus hop notes, toffee malt, a hint of chocolate, and some astringent minerality.
Taste: dark non-burnt malt (maybe carafa special), clean hop bitterness, soft floral hops, toffee malt, and a bit of astringent minerality. Balanced and pleasant but full-flavored. Has a bad but subtle astringent note.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Jesterdeal (571) - Marlton, New Jersey, USA - MAY 3, 2012
Aroma of vinegar, slight chocolate, and a floral nose. Pours black with a big brown head. Taste is bitter and sour. Vinegar, coffee, and a slight floral funk. This is either a spoiled bottle or a bad beer.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 blankboy (4452) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 1, 2012
Bottle [12oz]. Pours a very dark ruby-brown with an average size lasting frothy tan head. Some lacing on the glass. Mild aroma of dark lightly-roasted malt, chocolate and some hops, but not many, especially for a Black IPA. Slightly sweet flavour of lightly roasted malt, some chocolate, coffee and again not enough hops for the style. Alcohol is hidden. Medium bodied. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of hops but it’s still a good beer.
