Belgian Style IPA

A variation of our "Loose Cannon" IPA, fermented with a Belgian Dubbel yeast culture - tangy hops with a spicy aroma.

I was expecting a golden amber color when I poured the beer, but the deep burnt orange body was a surprise. The head was small and carbonation mild, both of these lacking considering the IPA and Belgian heritage of the beer. The smell showed influences from both camps, with a hoppy citric aroma mixed with banana. The taste was similarly hybridized, with a BSPA like clean fruity and spicy taste blended with citric hop flavors. Unfortunately, the mouthfeel was somewhat watered down, and beer felt not as complex as it could have been, considering the ingredients. A nice diversion but more flavor would have helped tremendously.

Tap. Pours clear amber/brown with thin, creamy off-white head; short retention and minimal lacing. Aroma is Belgian yeast, grassy and floral hops, pears, figs, and caramel malt. Flavor is balanced malt and hops with faint fruit esters; dry, semi-sweet finish. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.

On sale at local beer store. Bottle poured into sniffer, dark copper color with white head. Aroma is sweet, yeasty, fruity, floral and some caramel. Taste is a pleasant hoppiness with more fruit. I’m use to somewhat stronger Belgian ales but this isn’t bad.

Pours a deep orange brown with minimal head. Aroma is Cloves and spice mixed with pine. Basically a nice blend of an IPA with Belgian yeast. Actually it's a Belgian that I can drink like a session beer. Nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ the Brewery-Reddish pour w/a moderate head & decent carbonation. Sweet aroma. Some sweet yeast, some carbonation, a little spice, smooth & easy to drink, alcohol was well hidden. Pretty solid easy drinking brew.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy light golden copper color with a small white head. Nose is peppery, some light candy notes, peppercorns. Palate is strong and in your face with a big bite, full mouth, sticky coated tongue and light pepper burn. Flavors of pepper, clove, light grassy hops, biscuits.

On cask at Max’s in Fells Point, Baltimore, Maryland. Tried this on cask instead of the Plank II they had going as part of a promotional night, being that I’d had the Plan II at a different promo night at Alewife a couple weeks back (it’s good!). The ale was striking from the start with a bright copper, almost orange color when viewed while back-lit by sunshine/light. Found Dubbel Cannon to be exceedingly pleasant to drink, with a perfect marriage of hoppiness and maltiness, and as good a cask ale as I’ve had this side of the big drink (Atlantic Ocean)!

Decent beer from Heavy Seas, the Hop3 IPA is a lot better in my opinion. This beer is much sweeter and less flavors of spices than I imagined. Not very similar to a Belgian brew. To me the best description of this is a German Wit beer of 1/4 of the beer and a mildly hoppy IPA for the other 3/4 of the beer combined. Taste of bananas and fruits is prevalent which give it that wit feeling, bit of hops but not a ton. Surprised it is 7.25 ABV with its taste. Good hearty ABV for someone who doesn’t like bitter hops and prefers a more sweet flavor for their strong beers.

12oz bottle. Aroma of peach juice and white pepper. Dark copper color. Thin white head. Nice lace. Creamy texture. Fine carbonation. Flavor is a touch of fruitiness, floral hops, deep caramel malts. Finishes with a citrus hop bitterness and more fruit. Very unique. If I bought a 6pk of this, instead of the single I picked up, I’d be a bit happier.
