3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Drew (2411) - Kent, Ohio, USA - NOV 29, 2005
Nice slice of grapefruit sprinkled with sugar aroma and surrounded with additional herbal/floral hops - very strong hop presence. Taste was smooth and almost thick with the taste of clover honey and some caramel, followed by an assertive hop that finishes with a thick resin coating on the tongue. Will most likely drink more of this one.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Frank (2061) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 27, 2005
UPDATED: JUN 20, 2010 Clear orange, foamy white head. Stiff, sticky resinous hoppy nose w/ lots of sweet malts. Almost a light barleywine on account of the sweet melon-like character. Well balanced though it sacrifices some drinkability due to the sweetness. Almost in IIPA territory in terms of heaviness if not hop aroma and bitterness. Score is the same as my original rating but I’ve changed up the category scores a bit.
Original rating 2005: Pours very clear orange despite some jostling on its journey home to my place--so it’s definitely not bottle conditioned. The head is initially small and fizzles to a ring w/in a minute of pouring. Hop profile in the nose is nice, lots very heavy on the citrus and floral notes w/o any sort of rough edges. Also very smooth drinking. Indeed, it is very hoppy w/ a goodly amount of bittering but it’s not overly aggressive. I might pin this as an APA if I didn’t know the ABV of it. In addition to the same floral/citrus character in the nose some earthy, piny and spicy notes come out in the finish. Palate is decent enough but I’m wishing for a bit of sticky sweetness to play off the hops or more effervescence to add some spunk. Can’t say it’s not a good beer though.

Extremely hoppy, both in aroma and flavor. There is also a slightly sweet aftertase which I like. Nice coppery-orange color, too.

Very very enjoyable! Clipper City has come out with another one I really like. As it states on the label, this one really tastes "Hop3". Pours beautifully, with a medium head and a cascade of aroma that is sure to warm you to the core. I found I liked it better when served around 60 degrees farenheit. Flavor is fantastic, full, rich and smooth, I’m glad this is now available year round, as I plan to get it a lot!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Pigfoot (2267) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 25, 2005
Clear golden color, nice softly creamy layer of foam above.
Lovely hop aroma, fresh and vibrant, floral and fruity, hints of honey, but piney, moreover, ...dazzling. Bitter, but pleasing and smooth.
Taste: ahhh! a hop ballet on the tongue, teasing and tantalizing, delivering deliciousness with every sip. Apples and pears meet the citric suspects, and the malt is sweet and sturdy, well matching the strong hop quotient. Hops last long on the palate, a fine, dragging finish that is well-loved.
The more I near completion of this bottle, the more I wish I had another. This is an IPA I’d like to return to again, very easy drinking, very smooth, very tasty.
Very nice, Clipper City, keep up the good work!

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2006 Pours a nice clean orangy body with a seafoam-like off-white head. Very nice hop aroma with essence of oranges and pineapple. The flavor closly matched the nose with some grapefruit in the finish. I also taste Belgian yeast in the finish. Very likely to become my session beer du jour. Great stuff!

Thanks to slob for sending this new one!
This starts out with a clear deep orange/amber body with a sticky peaked head.
Big malty hoppy aroma with citrus and fruit.
Just on the bitter side overall with a good supporting malt that lies underneath.
Rich and full body give it a filling mouthfeel. Very nice East Coast IPA that shows some strong West Coast origins.
