COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This malty lager is our most award-winning beer: it took gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival from 2006 to 2010. Cutlass Amber has a toasted, biscuity character. The slight sweetness comes from Crystal malt. Vienna malt contributes a remarkable smoothness and Munich malt gives an amber color and delicate aroma. Tettnang hops infuse the beer with a slight earthiness. Formerly named Heavy Seas Märzen, Cutlass Amber is our second best-selling beer. In 2012, Cutlass Amber won a silver medal at the World Beer Cup in the Vienna Lager category.

Draft. Dark amber with little head. Typical lager aroma. Overly sweet taste. Palate is a little thin. I suppose it's fine for what it is but I didn't particularly enjoy it.

Tasted at Blacksburg Brew Do - this has a malty aroma with subtle hops underneath, malty taste, not a particularly long finish, but easy to drink.

Aroma of stale beer and toffee. Pours a copper color with no head. Decent tasting amber, not anything special.

Harris Teeter, DC sixer ($9): Pours an orange color with minimal head action. Aroma of sugar, caramel, and malts. Taste is slightly bitter, but as you keep drinking it the sweetness it really what is most pronounced. Good mouth feel and easily chuggable, but by no means one of the best marzens I’ve had; better ones exist on both sides of the pond.

Tap at C&B Cinci, well they were right with the malty part, unfortunately its a harsh malty taste, i can’t place it, but its the combination of too much crystal i think that’s off putting to me.

Thin tan head with fair retention and minimal lacing. Clear, copper gold hued brew. Nose of light bready malts and a little bit nutty. Lightly medium body, soft carbonation. Lightly sweet malt flavors, some butterscotch, grain and earth. Lightly sweet finish, malts. Meh. Award winning eh? Wow.Vienna Lagers aint what they used to be! Bottle from statelineliquors.

Small white head thats short lived leaving very little lace behind. Clear, light copper color. Medium sweet malt nose, toffee notes, grainy with a soft breadyness. Med/light body, fairly crisp. Medium sweet malts on the palate, bready, lightly vinous with a faint hop grassyness. Finish is mildly sweet.

Appearance: medium amber with a bit of orange, light tan head quickly fading. Aroma: light toasted brown bread, hint of brown sugar and toffee. Taste: roasty, light nuts, some earthy mellow hops . Finish: a bit light, nearly watery, with some lingering toasty, nutty malt sweetness. Notes:Hmm…was there a recipe change when the name was changed from Marzhon (a far better appellation IMHO)? I’m guessing there was a tweak, because the abv is lower, the palate is lighter, and the overall flavors are just off from what I recall. Pretty disappointing, actually.

Appearance: medium amber with a bit of orange. Aroma: malts, light caramel, maybe some honey. Taste: crispy, slightly sweet malts, hint of hops to balance. NICE. Finish: clean and crisply malty; lingering dry, slightly sweet crackers. Notes: Wow. A really drinkable beer. Right up there for the lagers.
