Not overly impressed by this beer, it starts out with a lot of vanilla and bourbon notes and then goes to a fairly hoppy but well balance barley wine. I was expecting a bit more, aged for a year had the 2012.

Bomber, pours rust. Heavy bourbon on the nose. Decent flavor but not well balanced. Could use age. Have another? Eh, let it age... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2012 vintage. Pours slightly cloudy deep ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, toast, toffee, vanilla, oak, clove, bourbon, brown sugar, and light booze. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, raisin, brown bread, vanilla, toast, toffee, clove, oak, bourbon, brown sugar, light chocolate, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, brown bread, raisin, vanilla, toast, toffee, clove, oak, bourbon, brown sugar, light chocolate, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible balance and complexity of dark malt and barrel flavors; with a fantastic malt/barrel balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a moderately creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy moutfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic BA Barleywine! All around awesome complexity and balance of malt and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Picked up the last 2012 bottle sitting in a hidden corner of my favorite bottle shop this AM. After I chilled it I poured into a dimpled mug (don’t judge me). The aroma has delightful vanilla sweet notes. Taste follows. Not a lot to disagree with here. Just some good barleywine. It took me a while to learn to appreciate an aged barleywine. Malts are not something I appreciated early in my craft beer experience. But this is delicious. I’ll look for the next generations and stock up my cellar. An excellent aged brew.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2013 Bomber. Murky reddish brown pour with a soapy head. Amazing aroma of vanilla, bourbon, wood, and maybe a bit of chocolate? So good!

Bottle sampled at a tasting. From notes. Boozy with vanilla, caramel and oak. I would gladly drink this again.

This was a fine barrel aged release and worth trying once. This particular bottle had about two years on it and has held up reasonably well. The next time I buy one though I may just drink it fresh. If you are a fan of the style pick up an affordable and relatively accessible bottle.

Aroma / Appearance - The bottle poured with lots of sediment. A thin short lived head collapsed downwards. Thick caramel, vanilla, and chocolate are like a sundae in a glass. Dense and chewy the ABV is hardly subtle.

Flavor / Palate - The taste of warm maple syrup matches the thick chewy mouthfeel. Warm hits of midrange bourbon sweep across the palate before the oaky finish. This is heavy - one or two pours was enough for me. That said it was also a great deal at about $7.99 and something worth trying again.

Dark brown with medium-small tan head. Aroma caramel/malt, bit of wood, dark fruits. Full body, some alcohol but pretty smooth anyway. Flavor sweet, brown sugar, some oak, dark fruit, vanilla. Warm off dry finish. Nice.

22oz bottle shared by Brad. Really nice caramel, smooth malt tones. Classic English Barleywine notes. Big oak tones. Easy drinking and quite balanced for the style. Nice.

2012 bottle pours deep mahogany amber, quick tan head that reduces to a cap. nose is mostly biscuit, toast, light oak, slight bourbon. taste follows this theme as the bourbon is more subtle... wish it had a little more. oak is very present. finish lingers and the abv makes me happy.
