Vanilla and malt aromas, not overpowering but pleasant. Dark amber hue with off-white, small bubbles in the head. Taste is winelike but malty with vanilla and roasted notes.

I’m not a huge fan of bourbon flavored beer so this one wasn’t for me but it was still made well, slight burned malt and dark fruit flavor with a whiskey finish

Pours a muddy reddish brown. Syrupy vanilla and a big raisin flavor. Nice barley wine here with the ageing adding to and not overpowering the overall experience. Bourbon alcohol aroma. A bit of muted spy sauce ont he flavor definitely a sipping kind of beer and would do much better on a cold witty night as opposed to the sunny warm spring day we are having here today.

On tap Blackthorn Pub Holly,MI... surprisingly pale colored and clear for a barley wine with a small whitish head; this beer is striking due to the unique combo of oak, whiskey, and wine. All flavors assert themselves without overpowering each other. Crisp and non-cloying on the finish this is an outstanding BW.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle pours a clear reddish-brown with brief bubbly white head. Aroma sweet malts with faint oak and a hint of sourness. Taste sweet caramel/toffee malts with slight bourbon and vanilla. Oaky finish. Palate full with alcohol burn, could be just a little thicker but did not detract. Alcohol evident.
This is not particularly complex but does a nice job - straightforward barleywine with a nice proportion of bourbon and quite a bit of oak.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a clear auburn, with a small, but lacy buttered-popcorn head. Nose is extremely sweet with vanilla bean, butterscotch, caramel, tobacco, and with lighter notes of earthier malts, and bourbon. The taste starts strong and sweet of butterscotch, caramel, and transitions into bourbon, and lightly toasted toffee. Body is medium, but slightly chewy toward the finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours an almost clear amber with a small off white head. Strong aromas of bourbon in the nose, along with some fig. Taste is not overly sweet, but heavy on the bourbon. Not boozy though, just bourbon-y. Alcohol hidden, not hot. Light carbonation. Very nice. Buzzed quick.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2013 Bomber into snifter glass. deep reddish-brown color with thin white head that disappears into a ring. Aroma of bourbon, oak, caramel, dark fruits and some vanilla. Taste is the aroma, adding some spiciness, chocolate and alcohol. Full body, low carbonation smooth with somewhat boozy finish. Warming and complex. IMHO much better then their regular Barleywine!

El bombero del diablo (2012) - pours murky amber with yellowish-brown head and it lacing. Nose is bourbony and sugary. Flavor adds alcohol, caramel, and rye. Sweetnd quite so. Apple/pear aftertaste. Dominated by the bourbon, but it might reveal more goodness as it warms. Bitter (unripe almond) taste in the back of the throat. Provides a literary buzz (Naked Lunch movie reference).
