Pours a clear auburn, with a small, but lacy buttered-popcorn head. Nose is extremely sweet with vanilla bean, butterscotch, caramel, tobacco, and with lighter notes of earthier malts, and bourbon. The taste starts strong and sweet of butterscotch, caramel, and transitions into bourbon, and lightly toasted toffee. Body is medium, but slightly chewy toward the finish.

Picked up the last 2012 bottle sitting in a hidden corner of my favorite bottle shop this AM. After I chilled it I poured into a dimpled mug (don’t judge me). The aroma has delightful vanilla sweet notes. Taste follows. Not a lot to disagree with here. Just some good barleywine. It took me a while to learn to appreciate an aged barleywine. Malts are not something I appreciated early in my craft beer experience. But this is delicious. I’ll look for the next generations and stock up my cellar. An excellent aged brew.

22oz bomber. Pour was a deep dark syrup color with a tan ring of head. Aroma was sweet malt, caramel and whiskey. Mouth was a bit dry with flavors of caramel and vanilla. The finish was very boozy. Not bad.

Bomber, pours rust. Heavy bourbon on the nose. Decent flavor but not well balanced. Could use age. Have another? Eh, let it age... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

dark caramel color, small head and not much lacing... notes of vanilla, butterscotch, caramel, some dark fruit, candied goodness both on the nose and tongue... low carbonation, full bodied and syrupy, almost port-like...

The main aroma is alcohol. The taste is malty with some oxidised flavours. There is definite bourbon flavour at the end that I like.

Vanilla and malt aromas, not overpowering but pleasant. Dark amber hue with off-white, small bubbles in the head. Taste is winelike but malty with vanilla and roasted notes.

Pours a rich reddish-brown with a beautiful head. Alcoholic and slightly cloying nose. Rich malt flavor, a bit sweet, with a notable whiskey finish. Wish I would have bought more to let a few age... I think this would only get better.

UPDATED: APR 26, 2012 2011 bottles served at cellar temp. Sent as an extra from ygtbsm94. Awesome. A - Dark brown with a reddish hue. Thick off-white head turns to some nice lacing. The lacing retention is fantastic. S - Sweet malts, slight oak, slight vanilla. T - Much like the aroma. Sweet malts, dark fruits, then hints of vanilla and sweet oak push through. Very smooth throughout. There is a little bit of a drag in the flavor before the barrel picks up. The vanilla/caramel/oak almost shows a candy-like flavor from middle to end. The finish gives the slightest amount of heat and dryness, but is fairly smooth. P - Medium, feels a little thicker and has some carbonation. Pretty nice. O - Good flavors, not too hot, smooth finish.
