20100515 Bomber from Wine World, sampled at PilsnerPeterís 2nd Annual Spring Gathering. Dark amber with lasting, thick beige head. Aroma is caramel, vanilla, and a nice earthy hop note. Flavor is quite sweet with some sweet bourbon and oak really driving home the malty personality of this big beer. Only mild late bitterness, some spruce, some slick oak.

Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JUN 14, 2010
Bomber. Pours clear, with a dark, reddish-brown tint and a small, smooth head of beige colored foam. Tiny spots and skinny arches of lacing stick to the glass loosely. The nose is sweet and buttery, loaded with toasted toffee, dark caramel, brown sugar, and vanilla. Bourbon lends additional sweetness, though it isnít as prominent as I thought it would be. Flavors show cola malts, cocoa, dry caramel, and buttery toffee, with hardly a hop to be found. The bourbon isnít overly boozy, though it is excessively sweet and loaded with vanilla. On the palate, a medium-full body gets its heft from sticky, plodding sugars, while light carbonation contributes to an overall syrupy feel. As barrel aged barleywines go, this is decent at best, and thatís probably got more to do with the mediocre base beer than the barrel aging process itself.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of malt, chocolate, caramel, slight dark ripe fruit, and a hint of oak. Poured deep amber/brown in color with a small, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer, as well as around the edges. Very hazy. Barely sparkling. Good lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of malt, slight Bourbon, slight vanilla, light oak, slight caramel, slight chocolate, and a hint of alcohol. Medium body. Slick, slightly viscous texture turns lightly dry. Soft to average carbonation. Malt, caramel, slight wood and light vanilla finish is dry. 10%ABV well hidden throughout.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2010 Bottle. Pours clear red brown with a slim pale white head. This is a light barley wine. Light nose with vanilla, creme brule, and dry oak. Light flavor with a bit of a cherry cough character, abd a long slow burn. Light body, and easy to drink. All of the lightness is not to say that this isnít a good beer. Its tasty. Just not nearly as good as some of the best.

Dickinsonbeer (5076) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - SEP 12, 2010
Bomber. Pours a mostly clear amber brown with a frothy fizzy head. Aroma is tons of caramel sweetness, earthy, hair, leather, oak, bourbon barrel, and some metallic hint with light herbal notes. Flavor is bourbon, oak, candy sugar sweetness, honey, toffee, toast, light burnt malts, ashy oak and old wood, and some astringency in the end with a light alcohol burn which comes from a thinning body in the end.

Bottled. A dark amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt, spices, caramel, and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, over ripe fruits, and caramel, leading to a bitter finish.

Reddish brown with a thin skim of tan head. Aroma is slightly bourbony, with not much else going on. Taste reminds me of a chocolate cola product, with a mineral remnant into the finish. None of the big nasty oxidized flavors of the cabernet variant, but not much bourbon either. $7/22oz

Pours a muddy reddish brown. Syrupy vanilla and a big raisin flavor. Nice barley wine here with the ageing adding to and not overpowering the overall experience. Bourbon alcohol aroma. A bit of muted spy sauce ont he flavor definitely a sipping kind of beer and would do much better on a cold witty night as opposed to the sunny warm spring day we are having here today.

Bottle at Peterís 2nd annual spring gathering. Pours a clear light brown with a thin white head. Smells of bourbon and vanilla, not a lot of depth. Very sweet and vanilla loaded. Overly sweet, finishing with a lightly tart dry bitterness.
