3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Chuckaduck (490) - Kentucky, USA - MAY 10, 2013
2012 Bottle. 5/11/13. Pours deep brown with a very bubbly off-white head. Aroma is excellent; caramel, grapes, toffee, slightly sour, bourbon, some solvent. Taste is wonderful; alcohol, lots of toffee and caramel, fruity, some sharp spicy notes; finish is chocolate, toffee,, leather, long bitterness. This one is really doing it for me. No lacing. Medium carbonation. Rich, chewy mouth feel. I’m highly impressed. I would drink this often.

Bottle shared by my buddy Blake, thanks brotha! This one definitely was packing some heat to it. The cabernet gave it a nice spice that I really enjoyed but this could probably be aged for a while.

This is for a 2012 bottle acquired during Free Beek Week (thanks Kier). Aromatics are very interesting.... Best descriptor is musty, wine. If it was a wine I would immediately think it had been corked. Thankfully it is a pretty intense Barleywine! Appearance is light brown and very light wispy head. Taste is instantly reminiscent of a nice Barleywine that was aged in wine barrels!!!! Haha. not a real better descriptor than that... Some mild dark fruits but mainly just grape notes. Palate is full and invigorating. Overall, I think this may have done better fresh but I am very pleased to have tried it.!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 bhensonb (8985) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 6, 2013
Bomber from beachbum25. Pours very dark ruddy copper with a beige smear. Aroma is sort of brown sugar mixed with dark red berry. Full bodied. Flavor is very red berry, then it develops treacle, gets a little oak astringency, but it’s really sugar/treacle/red berry. Finishes on the sweet side, but very, very tasty. Thanks Jim!

Great grape peel, black cherry, caramel, wood. Pours red with great lacing. Taste is wonderful with toffee, grape peel, and chocolate. Fantastic and better than the bourbon.

An getting the slight touches of a smooth red wine. Lot of plum and red fruit in the aroma. A little bit of oak and wood in the flavor. Some soy sauce later in the palate but tasty and light. An interesting beer and goes well with the rainy night we are having.

This one tasted almost exactly like wine with a slight reminder of malts and hops. Very smooth with a slight alcohol finish
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 22, 2013
On tap at Pizzeria Paradiso-Dupont Circle in Washington DC, served in a snifter. Pours clear reddish-amber with a rim of bubbles and no head. On the nose, it is oaky and grapey with molasses and sweet malts. The flavour is candy sweet, strong molasses rounded with oak, flowers and grape juice. There is just a hint of hops. A peppery note, along with increasing hops, enters towards the end. On the palate, it is medium-full in body with a syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a decent barley wine, but I am not sure about the cabernet barrel; it is also a bit too sweet for my taste. 2012-06-09
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Dogbrick (6021) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 20, 2013
Sample at the Studio 35 Barrel Aged Beer / Slap Shot screening on 02/10/2013. Pours brown with a medium thin light beige head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. The aroma consists of red wine, oak and vanilla. Full-bodied with flavors of dark fruit, oak, vanilla and burnt malt. The finish is oaky vanilla and dried fruits. Good all around.

Finishing my last bottle of my HS barrel aged beers. Bomber into snifter glass, clear rich dark amber color with thin light tan head. Pretty sweet aroma, detect caramel malt, dark fruits (prunes, raisins, berries), wine and oak notes. Taste follows the aroma, sweet and fruity, adding notes of chocolate and toffee, with some booze showing up on the finish. Rich body, mild carbonation, sticky, smooth and slick. Great improvement on their barley wine.
