Bomber from Capone’s. Pours turbid chocolate fudge color with minimal off-white head (very minimal). Nose is yeasty oaky malt, figgy fruit, cognac, red wine grapes. Tastes rich, very oahy and bourbony, with notes of maple, mild figgy and pruney fruit, earthiness, cognac, and an overall flavor that comes across more like a fine cognac than a beer, albeit with more oak, woody, and malty notes. This one is very good, and demolishes the beer/spirit boundary.

2010 Vintage, 22 ounce bottle on 6/27/11. Pours a hazy copper color with a medium sized creamy tan head that fades quickly. Big wine notes in the aroma with notes of toffee, cheese, berries and a faint hop finish. The taste is toffee, red wine, cherries, berries, anise, other spicy notes and a citrus hop finish. Medium-full bodied.

Sample at the Studio 35 Barrel Aged Beer / Slap Shot screening on 02/10/2013. Pours brown with a medium thin light beige head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. The aroma consists of red wine, oak and vanilla. Full-bodied with flavors of dark fruit, oak, vanilla and burnt malt. The finish is oaky vanilla and dried fruits. Good all around.

Courtesy of markwise. It pours clear mahogany with tan head. The aroma is nice with sweet musty pine hop enhanced malts, wood spiciness, sweet / tart raspberries and molasses. The taste begins with sweet malts, molasses, thick sludgy malts, some caramel and pine hops. I dig this. By midway I get modest levels of red skinned berry fruity, cherry, faint red wine notes and some woody barrelness that provide a pleasing balance to the sweetness. Well done.

Bottle at Peter’s 2nd annual spring gathering. Pours a clear orange brown without any head. Smells of isopropyl, wood, and caramel. Malty and tannic, sweet with some tart notes to it. Lingering wood on the finish. A bit of a mess.

beer of summer @ OTH. side by side with the bourbon version. deep copper, tan head. aroma, fresh Cabernet barrel adding a nice grape nose. flavors, Cabernet barrel, raisin, mix of malt and caramel, this version had a more fruity aspect without some of the vanilla presence. Enjoyed this one a lot, but not the depth of the bourbon version.

Super vinous cabernet nose, some tea notes. Light tannin barrel tartness. Pours still, amber brown, no head. Flavor is also vinous, lots of wine, some tea, toffee, alcohol. Somewhat hot vodka-y. Its interesting.

22. Thanks alex! Pours a hazy dark brown with amber edges. Big fluffy off white head. Vinous nose, a little tart and puckery. Bready notes under that. Fairly thick and sticky body. Toffee, shortbread, caramel, and acidic vinous grape notes on the mid palate. Could use a little more body and complexity to stand up to this much wine flavor.

Very dark brown with a fizzy white head. Malty, slightly grainy aroma with a strong red wine presence with a similar taste and a vanilla and oak finish.
