3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
22 oz bomber from Stateline. Poured a good looking deep brown body with a large frothy beige head. Aroma of old grapes, toffee, wood, manure, chocolate pudding skins. Mouthfeel is rather dry with no real noticable alcohol. Flavor of toffee, barrel, cardboard, hint of wine. Meh......this one is a swing and a MISS......

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber to snifter. Looks good; a semi-transparent caramel with thin off-white lacing. Smells solid; sweet and oaky with cabernet notes. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Solid beer.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2010 batch, from the bottle poured into my Narke glass...A medium brown with lots of dark amber in the light, unique. A watery light tan head, not much there...Sweet aroma, distinct english barleywine backbone, but lots of wine comes through. Toffee, red wine, caramel, mild hops....The taste is pretty mild shows off the barrel more than anything, vanilla with lots of red wine. This barleywine was too light to hold up, but its qualities, but tastes good none the less.
I canít recommend this, but I drank the bottle pretty easily.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Pours a clear, dark, reddish-brown color with a small, smooth head of beige tinted foam. Wet spots and thin arches of lacing mark the glass. The aroma is sweet, big on caramel and dark toffee, with notes of cocoa malt and big, saccharine vanilla. Thereís a hint of peppery vinousness, as well as a very slight buggy twinge, but the wine influence largely stays out of the way of the big, sweet malts. Flavors follow suit, very Brittish in its sugary malt profile, showing more caramel, brown sugar, scorched toffee, and vanilla. Thereís very little in the way of hop influence, meaning this stuff is pretty far from balanced. Medium-plus in stature, sticky, and warm, the palate is overly sugar-laden and boozy. Drinkable and decent, but not all that great. Barrel aging should largely be reserved for already-great base beers, and this certainly isnít one of them.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 13/20
Boozy walnut nose, similar to rum balls my Dad used to make. Cola brown, thin yellow head. Date flavor, lesser walnut and cherry notes. Yeah, itís fruitcake in a glass. Tart and way too hot.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle. Pours a deep, murky, rusty brown with a frothy off white head that left some nice lacing. Light oak on the nose with faint vinous notes. Some toffee and dried dark fruits in there as well. Not overly sweet on the palate, a great malty finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Serving: 22 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors.
Aroma: The nose has plenty of musty grapes, wood, and dark fruit. A nice mix of both the Cabernet and the barley wine.
Appearance: It pours a dark ruddy color with a dense light tan head. Decent head retention given the high alcohol content.
Taste: The flavor is a mix of a great, dark, malty, fruity barleywine and a big bodied Cabernet. Lots of rich fruit, a bit of caramel, dried fruit, a little candied apple. Very complex stuff with lots of depth.
Palate: Medium bodied with average carbonation and a lingering slightly bitter finish.
Overall: I really enjoyed the interplay of the wine barrel with the barley wine. This one really came out well in my mind. Definitely recommended.
