4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark, english appearing brown ale with a finger of light caramel foam that falls to a mirrored surface with a rim. Nice cherry hues where light glows. Smells of cocoa, lots of cocoa; kinda weirds me out, but I dig it. Nice caramel, toffee and tea flavors in the beer. I haven’t had it fresh, but I like it now as it is. Medium bodied with a semi slick finish.
I would drink this again and again if in my area. Looking forward to the BBA and Cab versions.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz Bomber from Winslow’s. (2012 Vintage) Dark brown murky hue with light brown mostly diminishing fizzy head. Virtually no lacing. Strong sweet smell of fruit and some malt. I got some cranberry, apple, prune, port wine and alcohol smells throughout the experience. Sweet light malt on the initial taste some on the finish but more alcohol then malt. Dry on the palate.

Color- deep chestnut. Slight head. Very malty, with slight sweetness and alcohol warmth. Dark candied fruits- plum, raisin. I like my barley wines hoppier than this.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask at Ginger Man, NYC. I guess it Must be a 2012 vintage. Pours a dark brown, almost still but with a somewhat bigger than expected with head (must have been a really vigorous pour?) that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is loaded with vanilla and toffee (burnt sugar). Taste is sweet but not cloying with a lot of caramel and (I swear) some bourbon impressions. Carbonation level was low, making it really smooth. There is a light alcohol sting but nothing too bad. A really fine drink.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22 oz bomber (2012 vintage) into a tulip. From notes.
A: Pours a clear dark burgundy color. The head is a one finger light mocha shade. Nothing too noteworthy here, aside from the clarity.
S: Sweet. It’s about as sweet as I expected, with many of the expected notes - caramel, raisins, figs, currants, and even a touch of bourbon. Aromatically, it should seem generic, but I find its sugary nature to be very enjoyable here.
T: There is a ton of dark fruit sweetness to start, later supplanted by a chocolaty, caramelly sweet finish. It’s fairly uneventful with no real complexity - and no real flaws either. Just an average barleywine designed for dessert purposes.
M: The palate doesn’t carry the sweetness that well; it only has decent viscosity and lacks the soft creaminess that would have given it a decadent feel otherwise. The gentle carbonation actually gives it reasonable drinkability.
O: Aside from the aroma, this one is average. I can’t complain about it being overly sweet, as it’s a pure dessert beer...I can complain about its lack of depth and middling feel, though. In addendum, the one I drank this with REALLY enjoyed it - then again, he isn’t a fan of barleywines. Take that however you like.
