3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 mgumby10 (1856) - Jupiter, Florida, USA - JUL 3, 2007
Pours a cloudy brown with a very small, thin white head. Smells of caramel, dark malts, wheat, and a little banana. The taste is of burnt malts, some caramel, a little bit of wheat, a little banana, and some smoke too. Defintely get a good dose of bitterness in the finish and the aftertaste. A little bit sweet, but the bitterness kind of masks some of the flavor going down. Pretty decent though. The alcohol is somewhat masked.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 hiphops (281) - caldwell, New Jersey, USA - JUN 30, 2007
smells like an average weizencock bubble gummy banana and grain bread. looks a little then not much head retention or lacing. pretty uneventful. taste like burnt buttered popcorn and alcohol some hints of banana but you cant taste much too long the alcohol is dominant in the swallow like my ex girlfriend. watery but still kind of oily on my tongue.typical drinkable but overall subpar heavy seas brew. and yea it really leaves a taste of burnt popcorn in my mouth
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 gunhaver (1030) - Tampa, Florida, USA - JUN 30, 2007
UPDATED: JUN 5, 2008 This is a weird beer. The nose is lacking. I get a lot of banana and bubblegum, flavor-wise. Reminds me of the Delirium Tremens, which is kinda weird. ABV is strong, but nothing that’ll knock your socks off, because it’s balanced well. Overall, another fine addition to Clipper City’s growing lineup.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 dchmela (2271) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JUN 29, 2007
So new to Orlando that the price wasn’t even in the register yet. Pours out with a dark molasses color with a little head. A little spice, wheat and banana in the nose. I’m drinking slightly chilled (too impatient to let it get colder) and you really get lots of flavors kickin around in there. Banana, fig, molasses, and wheat are coming out in the flavor. Goes down so smooth, a great beer to start off my weekend.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Quake1028 (633) - Tampa, Florida, USA - JUN 27, 2007
New to Tampa as of a few days ago. 12oz bottle served in a Weizen. New style, huzzah! Pours a dark cloudy amber body with a 2.5 finger off white head. Resolves to an off white ring on top of the beer. Spotty lacing. Aromas of wheat, fleshy fruits, spices and caramel. As it warms I start to get a lot more banana on the nose. Smells very nice. On the tongue we have banana, wheat, clove, spices and dark fruits. Finish is a bit sweet, medium lenght and pleasing. Letting the beer warm up a bit brings a bit of the booze out in the finish. Alcohol content is very well masked otherwise. Feels a bit flat on the tongue, seems to have fairly low carbonation. Light to medium bodied mouthfeel, feels a bit oily on the palate as well. Good brew!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NYHarvey (2153) - New York, New York, USA - JUN 27, 2007
Big yeasty aroma with banana, toasted wheat, a kick of alcohol and some mild smoked caramel notes, raisins and hints of other dark fruits. The body is a chestnut color and holds a diminishing tan head that leaves a film of lace. I get some aged banana, smoke, mild clove, toasted wheat, hot alcohol and a bit of ’nilla wafer. Pretty solid if not exactly Aventinus. For the money ($1.99 a single for a 10% abv beer) this might be the best beer deal in the state.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 fishingnet (1047) - Brandon, Florida, USA - JUN 25, 2007
Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy deep amber with a small short lived light tan head. Aroma of spicy wheat, caramel, banana, clove, and yeast. Taste is the sama as aroma with a light caramel sweetness and a touch of raisin. Medium full mouthfeel with a mild bitterness. The alcohol is hidden so well that this seems like a session beer until you stand up. A very well done beer by Clipper City.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 scraff (2120) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUN 21, 2007
Deep hazed rust, creamy khaki colored head. Authentic rich weizenbock nose of caramel, clove, banana, and touches of warm raisin bread. Boozy raisin and fig notes are nicely balanced with the banana, clove , and caramel tones. Further warming brings out a soft bitterness in the end to provide decent balance. Full bodied and smooth, soft carbonation, light bittersweet finish. Brings back thoughts of the old Degroens Weizenbock. Well done Hugh!
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 zebracakes (1339) - Washington DC, USA - JUN 17, 2007
Bottle purchased at Kazansky’s in PGH. I tried to get more info on this beer and noticed that it’s not set to be released until the end of June??? Not sure how Kazansky’s got ahold of this so early.
Pours hazy caramel orange, off white head. Aroma is strong banana, clove, wheat, meat, coriander, chamomile. Flavor is banana, clove, coriander, beef jerky, bitter, candied caramel, alcohol. Not as well blended as it could be.
