22 oz bomber served in a large Austrian mug (from Oct.2011 notes) A - VERY dark mahogany, but clear and allowing a bit of light to come through. Pours with a towering, foamy and creamy tan head that reduces quickly but leaves a 2 finger irregular head and lots of foam on the glass. S - Immediate fresh hop smell; herbal, a bit earthy and citrusy. Some roast malt barely present in the background. T - This brew is way more hoppy than usual for the style, but not so much as to completely mask the malts. Despite the ample hop flavor and aroma, this is only mildly bitter. It has a lasting, mild hop finish and aftertaste. M - Medium body; excellent carbonation level; semi-dry finish; virtually no bite. O - Reading up on "porters" recently (Tasting Beer by Mosher), I now know that "porter" is a highly variable style. Still, this one is on the fringe. If you donít expect a typical porter, and like the smell and flavor of fresh hops, this beer should appeal to you. This one is a nice cross between a fresh hop black APA and an American Porter. Very drinkable!

Bomber. Medium brown, clear, thin head. Strong fresh hop aroma, smooth and malty like a brown with a little sweetness. Short finish. Good -- different/unique.

Bomber from Total Wine in Stuart. Pours brown brown with very little tannish head. Aroma has sweet dark fruit, milk chocolate and some earthiness. Taste brings sweet licorice, rum raisin, cocoa, some sourness and a touch of grapefruit. Finishes sweet and quite short. A very sweet brown ale?

I really enjoyed this dark hoppy beer. It had a nice genuine sweetness to it and was very easy to drink. I would certainly get another.

Hmmm...interesting ruddy "porter" poured out of bomber. Notes: fresh, low citrus notes, small malt backbone. Wouldnít classify as a porter with the much of a hop punch, but who the hell am I to say this isnít a porter? Whatever this concoction is, itís pretty good.

THOUGHTS: It borders on a black IPA, but itís lighter. Maybe more like a black pale ale. Very easy to drink. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown with red highlights and an average to large, tan, head that mostly diminished, but left excellent lacing. The aroma had light to moderate roasted malt; lighter dark chocolate and coffee; and moderate pine, resin and citrus hops especially orange. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was light to mod sweet, moderately bitter and lightly acidic with an average duration. There was roasted malt, a little dark chocolate and coffee, citrus (especially orange) and pine hops, a little caramel and resinous hops. The medium body was a bit oily with fairly fizzy carbonation and an ever so slightly metallic finish.

22 oz bottle served in a tulip. Pour is walnut with 3 fluffy fingers of light/medium kaki head; great retention and lacing on this one. Nose is alfalfa, barley, light citrus, hops, and a touch of baby powder. Taste is right on key, but the malt is much more present, and balances the hops and grains nicely, than the nose indicates. This is a tasty beer that I could drink all night. Nothing extraordinary, but it goes down smooth!

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a deep red tint and a frothy, light beige head;good retention and some lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, toffee, and earthy hops. Flavor is caramel and light roasted malt up front, light smoke; transitions to bitter earthy and floral hops. Medium/full body with medium carbonation and warmth.
