Great looking beer with a very dark brown almost black clear body and a tan foamy lasting head. Aroma is nice, mostly malt, coffee, chocolate. The flavor is bitter chocolate with a hint of sweetness at the finish. Well done.

Aroma is roasted rye malts with a spicy peppery end. Flowery hops float above the spicy peppers. Great.
The appearance is smooth, light brown head. Flat, deep chocolate brown with plum/purple at the edges. Head is incredible.
The flavor is spicy rye and spicy habanero peppers mesh beautifully. Roasted caramel malts and mocha on the finish. A nice peppery burn at the end.
Feels creamy with a good deal of carbonation. Overall, it’s less a porter than a strong ale infused with spices. Heavy and challenging and delicious. Spicy as hell.

22oz bottle from the Sahara Mart in Bloomington, IN. Pours a deep brown colored body with a finger-width, creamy, light tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is some sweet citrus pines and caramel with light notes of rye spice, chocolate, and a hint of toast. Flavor is similar. Lots of citrus pines up front with a medium sweet caramel to balance. A light chocolate, rye spice, and a light roast shows up in the flavor before this finishes dry with a light resin and moderate, sweet pine bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium, smooth body and creamy carbonation. Overall, a nice beer. More like a black IPA than a porter. Lots of sweet pines with a smooth malt balance and pleasant hint of rye spice. Good one.

[Draft @ BCTC 2010] Dark brown with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, some cocoa, rye malts, and smoke. Taste of chewy rye, roast, some cocoa, and a dry finish.

omber: Aroma is malt, caramel, rye, hard candy, and the slightest bit of hops on the backend. Appearance is almost an opaque black with a thick tan head that lingers for quite a while. Taste is rye upfront melding into a hop texture then more of the malt and caramel characteristics. Palate is nicely mouth coating, aftertaste has got the rye in there and a lightly astringent flavor. Overall, Pretty good stuff and packs a punch with taste and alcohol. Cheers!

Bottle. A dark brown color pour with a two finger frothy off white head , good retention and lacing , medium carbonation . Aroma of roasty malt , spicy hops, rye , coffee and a faint note of cherry pipe tobacco . Keep up the good work Hugh. This bomber is great. Fortunately I love rye and it is put to good use here. It’s crispness is the perfect foil for the wonderful heavily roasted malts. Nice toffee and caramel notes. Might be better in the winter sitting near the fireplace.

Bottle. Poured dark and silent with a big inch-thick top of foam. The aroma is of alcohol and pine. Easy to drink, this delivers mellow notes of vanilla, chocolate malt, and java. Bring on the ice cream sundae. (#3946, 7/16/2010)

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2010 $7 22oz - Hmmm....not liking the rye with this one. This porter is balanced, but nothing stands out except too much rye--very dry with some malt. Sort of odd brew. This is rated as one of Clipper City’s best, but it misses the mark for me. ADD - On retry, I liked this a little better. Still stand by my original rating.
