3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a clear, deep amber color with a small, light tan head. The nose has some bubble gum and simple malt. The flavor is sweet and malty with some bubble gum and anise, but not much else No yeast character and not much in terms of depth. A little darker malt character (not quite nutty or caramel) comes out as the beer warms. A little tinny character comes out as well. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a sweet finish. Not terrible, but a bit sweet and clumsy.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Not a bad dubbel. Pretty thick and sticky which was the reason for the lower rating. Nice dark brown color with creamy head and lacing. Smelled of alcohol and yeast.

Bottle. Pours clear tawny/mahogany with a small, frothy light tan head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, nutty, toast, caramel), dark fruity esters (plum, dates, raisins), and candi sugar with no detectable hops. Flavor is spicy alcohol and hops with light to medium bitterness, medium sweet malts and sugar, caramel notes, nutty and toast, dark fruity esters and a dry finish. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Served on draft at Whole Foods Market Charlottesville, VA on 6/28/11. Pours a hazy copper color with a thin creamy tan head that fades quickly. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel and banana. The taste is toasted malts, toffee, brown sugar, faint smoky notes and leafy hops. Medium bodied.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle poured into cigar city snifter. Dark brown with slight ruby red tints when held to light. Aroma and flavor are very much the same: yeasty, slightly sweet and maybe a tad acidic. Definitely not the best from this series.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle. Served in a DFH Signature glass, the beer pours a mostly clear orange/amber color with about an inch tan head. Head retention is decent, and there’s a good amount of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is caramel malt, peppery spice, cherries, yeast and a bit of banana. Taste is similar to the aroma, there’s peppery spice, caramel and bready malt, plums, bananas and some bubblegum. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s creamy and has good carbonation. This is quite an interesting brew, I certainly didn’t expect the banana and bubblegum taste in this dubbel, but it works well. I liked it, and for $5.99 it’s not too bad of a price. I’d buy this one again, I think it’s good overall.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Taco Mac Decatur. Listed as a porter but much more reminiscient of a brown or even a dubbel. A ha, it is listed here as a dubbel. Trusting this categorization. Nuttiness and chewy grain in the flavor. Fruity aroma, cherry, plum. Good effervescence and a bittersweet finish. Bit of cherry hanging aroun in the finsh as well.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at Churchkey. Brown color, massive beige head. Aroma of malted milk balls. Taste is similar with a slightly smokey edge. More complex than your average dubbel.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber from State Line. Pours chill hazy ruby with deep orangy coppery highlights and a minimal off-white head. Nose is huge cherry, brown sugary malt, spice, banana, some bubblegum even. Tastes rich, malty, with brown sugar, caramel sweetness, earthy yeasty esters, mild late hops, and a lot of dark fruity and cherry notes. The style doppelweizen doesn’t exist, but this one could be that, with a smidgen of old ale thrown in.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Tap at Churchkey. The pour is a clear, strawberry to amaranth color with a medium, tan head. Nose is sweaty, salty with huge plastic phenols. Taste brings strawberry milkshake and ice cream but is overpowered by plastic/phenols in the body. Hard to get through.
