3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark brown. Tastes like roasted cashews/figs/plum. I don’t think I’ve had a beer quite like this. No head (possibly due to this being a recap). Thanks Seymour.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted on 2/8/14 from a capped 650mL bomber bottle at the Saturday night post-grand-tasting-tasting at RBWG Asheville. Pours hazy orange with a thin beige head that leaves thin lace. The nose is caramel malt with some dry black tea and a touch of spicy yeast. The flavor is honeyed with the same caramel malt, black tea and spicy yeast. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long bitter honey and tea finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 ounce bottle poured into a chalice. Pours a murky copper color with a beige head of foam about an eighth inch thick. Aroma has slightly oxidized notes of caramel and toffee. Some raisin and other dark fruits come through as well. Taste is fairly sweet and a little earthy. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Some alcohol warmth is there on the back of the rogue after the swallow. Pretty good beer. It’s held up well to time.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from 22oz bottle into a Piraat snifter.
A: Pours dark reddish-brown with 1/2 inch light tan head. Good retention and a nice coat of lacing left on the glass with each tip.
S: Lightly sweet and fruity with more malt showing than average for style.
T: Flavorful and similar to the aroma. Lightly sweet start and mildy bitter in the aftertaste. Nicely fruity with dark fruit (raisins, figs), toffee, and light spices.
M: Medium-full body. Slight astringent and not quite as smooth as expected for style. Medium+ carbonation.
O: Impressive American rendtition of this Belgian style, albeit not up to the best Belgians.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle. Poured in a goblet. Medium body. Lighter, but more sharp carbonation. Very dry texture. Some light dark fruit, candy , and earthy hop aroma. Caramel, some tropical fruit flavors. Like fruit punch. Spice nose. Taste is mostly bitter, with spice. Mostly clear red color, with some brown hues. Minimal khaki head. Some baked apple, banana.. Bit sweet. Interesting dubbel. But doesn’t really do it for me, still.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle… Clear brown ale with a glimmer of burnt-orange and a big, creamy, off-white head. The nose is of lightly spicy Belgian phenols which really spoil the fun for me as I prefer the nice notes of dates, figs and raisins that are also presented here. Full-bodied with a 1%-milk mouthfeel and modest carbonation. The flavor is balanced nicely, but lacks any true malt character. Caramel? Not really. Fruitcake? Nah. Cocoa? Huh uh. So, the flavor falls flat, but is not the least bit offensive. Finishes minerally and bland. This one if fairly typical of the rest of the Mutiny Fleet line from Heavy Seas. Very meh.

22 ounce bottle poured an amber color, aromas of spice, banana, dried fruit, light malt, and some light hops. Flavors are the same as the aroma, nicely balanced, little spice in the back end.
