COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2010 Rye Porter

Winners from our 2009 Letter of Marque Homebrew Competition will work along side our brewers to create this one time special release. Letter of Marque will feature a different beer every year selected from our national homebrew competition. Historically, a Letter of Marque was a document that made a Pyrate a legitimate professional. Hence, our Letter of Marque makes a home brewer a legitimate professional as well!

Dark brown color with amber tint. Creamy white head. Slight smoke aroma and pine. Piney flavor. Rye taste in finish with licorice in aftertaste.

Bottle from SL. Pour was deep dark brown-black, off-white tan head, only a cm or so, but man, rings of lacing all the way down. The aroma was chocolate, roast, caramel, fruits, pine. The flavor was roasty, bitter rye, chocolate, piney hops, a touch of licorice. The mouthfeel was full, tangy (rye?), bitter, hoppy, nice.

By far the most hoppy beer I have ever had from this brewer. The palate is fruity with the rye coming out on the dry finish. Hops are the focal point with peach being a predominate flavor. Overall, a nice to really nice rendition of an India Black Ale.

Medium statured tan head with good retention and decent lacing.Almost black in color ceptin for a nice ruby red hue when held to the light. Nose is sorta spicey, lightly roasty, rubbery and chocolatey with some tropical fruit notes as well. Med/full body, nice carbonation level, a tad oily with a crispness that must be from the rye. Grainy spicey flavors with more chocolate and roast, caramel and some piney notes as well. Rye malt must make a fair part of the grain bill? Finish is dry, bold and tangy, a bit chalky and chocolatey. An interesting beer, surprisingly. The last few i,ve had from Heavy Seas have been somewhat of a let down. Not bad, not bad at all. Bomber procured @statelineliquors.
