4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ChainGangGuy (3837) - Canton, USA - MAR 28, 2010
16 ounce pint - $6.25 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Served up a near black body with a lasting half-inch of tan-hued foam. BA TheLibrarianGirl prefers to call it "chocolate milk foam".
Smell: Moderately roasty-toned nose with a constant note of baker’s chocolate and coffee, with a slight background hint of dried dark fruits.
Taste: Dark, roasty malts presents a taste of black coffee dosed with table sugar followed by a handful of semi-sweet chocolate morsels and cocoa powder. Medium sweetness overall. A dark fruitiness slips in with a small sip of prune juice. The roastiness receives a noted bump midway and joins in with slight bitterness. Hint of alcohol warmth, then it’s off to the semi-dry, halfway chocolaty, halfway roasty finish, with that small dark fruitiness lingering into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-carbonation.
Drinkability: It’s no Choklat, that’s for sure, but I still liked it. It’s sort of a relatively lighter, easier-drinking alternative to it, being of slender body, lighter on the chocolate taste, and having less alcohol.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 DCJack (181) - Alabama, USA - APR 14, 2012
Very weak palate. Thin and metallic. Strong licorice candy flavor. Metallic aftertaste. Medicinal. Has the mouthfeel that I would expect from drinking rubbing alcohol. Reminiscent of dental office mouth rinse. Possibly one of the worst stouts I’ve had in a while. Maybe I’ll try it to treat the next sore throat.

I really enjoyed this beer! Everything about it was fantastic.
My only complaint is that I can’t find it anymore... anyone have a case for sale?

On draft. Somewhat effervescent for this dense of a stout, but this prevents the robust taste from overpowering. Excellent beer, the cocoa in flavor lasts quite a while and makes it an excellent sipper.

22oz bottle. Black color, light brown head. Good splotches of lace. Impressive, sweet chocolate nose. Good sweet taste, with some booze. Light, smooth carbonation. Really impressive. A surprisingly good standout ale from Heavy Seas. I haven’t had a chocolate ale this satisfying since Rogue’s.

Deep chocolate aroma. Clear dark mahogany color, with light head. Deep chocolate front with a crisp finish.

A dark, dark belt own pour with a medium brown head. The aroma is cocoa and dark fruits. The taste is roasted malt and a hint of cocoa. Medium carbonation and a mild roasted finish. It is not a comix brew, but it is refreshing and pairs well with spicy foods.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ataraxia (33) - - FEB 26, 2012
Not really recommended. Pours inky black with a beige head; aroma of milk chocolate, toffee, and raisins; taste is rather sweet with chocolate and dark fruit. Texture is rather thin with mild carbonation.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Butters (3014) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - FEB 19, 2012
Sampled first with MM on our first valentine’s day together. Again at the next one. Beautiful black pour with big tan head. Great hot cocoa aroma and flavor. Very creamy milk chocolate and cocoa. Big roast, and some leathery notes. Silky smooth but full mouthfeel, though, I would like it just a touch more full bodied, or on nitro. Definitely one of the best, and best priced, imp stouts out there.
