In the most worthy of pumpkin patches and during the silence of the midnight hour, the Greater Pumpkin raises up and pours a rich deep and burnished orange color. Heady aromas of bourbon, cinnamon, ginger, allspice and clove linger seductively over the thick white head of this tremendous brew. Its love at first sip as the full malt body, dominated by British crystal malt, brown sugar and pumpkin, slowly washes over your tongue. Bourbon barrel aging rounds out the flavors with notes of oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Pairs well with crisp autumn weather, crunchy fallen leaves, and the knowledge that your kids will be asleep soon so you can raid their Halloween candy bags.

Previously 9% abv under the Mutiny Fleet series.

THOUGHTS: Wow. That’s a lot of bourbon and wood. It was almost a little too much. It might need to age a bit longer. There was definitely some pumpkin beer flavors and aromas, but the wood and bourbon were dominant. It was better the warmer it got. It could have done a better job hiding the alcohol. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium amber with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was a bit hot and contained moderate caramel malt; sweet pumpkin; a little apple; vanilla; alcohol; a little spice cookie; slightly fruity pumpkin; a little pumpkin pie spice was there but underlying), but mostly it smelled like bourbon and wood. The flavor was also a bit hot. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and slightly bitter and sour; while the finish was moderate to heavily sweet with a long duration. There was mostly bourbon and wood, sweet and fruity pumpkin, vanilla, pumpkin pie spices, alcohol, caramel, and a sort of butterscotch and molasses thing. The medium to full body was a little syrupy with tingly carbonation and a moderate to heavily alcoholic finish.

The body has a deep reddish orange amber color with fine yeast sediment floating around giving it a hazy look. From the pour I got a small off white head that quickly fades to fine layer of foam with a thick ring around the edge of the glass. Lacing is good. Right away there is a noticeable whiskey presence. Notes of the booze, the vanilla, and some oak notes mingle with honey sweet malt notes and pie spice in the nose. Right up front I get the bourbon whiskey notes with hints of vanilla, caramel and a slight touch of oak. This plays well with the base malt which has some honey like sweetness, pie spice and a hint of pumpkin squash flavor. The finish has some sweet boozy warmth from the 9% ABV that adds to the bourbon character. It also carries some of the pie spice and some mellow hop bitterness deep into the finish.

Draft sample. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a small white head. Tastes like pumpkin pie.The pumpkin and spices are perfectly balanced with the bourbon. Nothing stands out in place of the others and it works terrifically. An excellent pumpkin beer......even if its April.

Pours clear orange with a medium white head. Smells of pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices, with a touch of bourbon. Taste is pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, vanilla, bourbon, and subtle hints of wood. Medium-bodied with a slick wet texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Heavy Seas Mutiny Fleet The Greater Pumpkin (2013) finishes with a lingering spiciness.

Pour from a 22oz bomber. Darker amber brew with off white head. Big aroma dominated by cinnamon and other pumpkin spices, bourbon and booze. Taste is sweet malt and sour fruit (pumpkin) p front with a rather heavy handed spice coming forward and an added layer of bourbon and booziness in the finish. Big brew - lots of flavor and a kick. A bit much, to be frank.

22 oz bomber. The pour is a hazy amber with a decent off white head and some spotty lace. The nose is distinctly pumpkin. There is some various note of spice, cinnamon and all spice and a the light vanilla from the bourbon barrel. The flavor has much more vanilla, and the spices take a back seat to that. There is a light pumpkin presence, but the barrel dominates the flavor. The mouth feel is velvety, almost creamy with a delightful lingering in the aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle into glass. Orange hue with fine white head. Strong vanilla nose. In the mouth, more vanilla, you do get a sense of bourbon.the pumpkin flavor is light and in the background, and spices are basically non-existent. Somewhat more hops than I expect. Pretty good brew but not a lot of pumpkin character.

Way to much bourbon flavor for me. Could not get past the alcohol flavor and sadly that is not a flavor I like.

Aromas of pie spice, oak and bourbon. Orange color with a thin white head. Definite bourbon flavor with enough pumpkin ale substance to stand up to the ABV. Lingering pumpkin and alcohol flavor. Very cool take on pumpkin ale, but you’ll want to split this one with a friend or call a cab home.

9/23/2010. From bottle. Sampled together with the Great Pumpkin. This one is a little more complex and the added alcohol make it more interesting. Spice, pumpkin and malt leads the way with light hops.
