COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Heavy Seas, we brew a traditional English-style pale ale with our own East Coast twist: UK Fuggles and Goldings dominate the flavor of Powder Monkey, but has subtle notes of citrus and flower from Cascade hops added in the boil and hopback. Brass in color, Powder Monkey, like all of our beers, is well balanced: distinct bitterness and a slight malt sweetness characterize the taste. In 2010, it won a bronze medal at the World Beer Cup; in 2008, it won a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 2/2/2015. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a nice 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon/orange zest, pear, apple, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good robustness and balance of bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a very solid English pale ale. All around good robustness and balance of bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Dark burnt orange. Malt forward with light pine, lemon, and a lot of caramel. Solid, but nothing special. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Orangey brown pour from bottle. Bit of hops and a little malt but otherwise uneventful.

Bronze clear ale, touch of caramel sweetness and bitter pine resin finish, decent but not my style

Tasted on tap in a mini Willybecher glass at the 2015 Schlafly Repeal of Prohibition Festival. It poured a clear deep amber colour with beige foam and lace. Very traditional English Best Bitter traits all-around: definitely malt-forward, caramelly, hint of toffee with nice citrusy and earthy hop balance. Medium body and carbonation, mineral complexity in the mouthfeel (chalk, gypsum?), lingering malty aftertaste which eventually finished with a dry snap. Pretty good stuff.

Pours a darker orange gold, almost brown color with off-white head. Loght pine, citrus, and bready cereal notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes balanced.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2015 Pours copper with white head. Citrus aroma with biscuit malt and floral spice. Flavor is dry caramel malt with biscuit notes followed by citrus & floral hops. Really nice English pale ale. Could throw a few of these back.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. Aroma- Malt and fruit with some hops, pretty good. Appearance- A nice light brownish color that has a small white head. Taste- Has a nice sweet flavor that is followed by the malt and hops. Palate- This is a light-to-medium bodied beer with light carbonation. Overall- A really good English Pale Ale, not much love on the beer sites. but I quite enjoyed it
