Pitch black, save for a tinge of red around the edges. Minor, thin head. Looks thick, though. Decent, sparce lace, which dissipates quickly. Nice, slightly sweet burnt malt smell. Minor coffee scent, balanced by a sweet cherry smell. Both smells are very nice and balance one another. Really really nice. Sweet malt with a roasted finish. Coffee bitterness stands out more than in the smell. A bit creamy. Leaves a lasting film after the swallow. Not too thick, but a nice body. Not dry or chalky like some stouts tend to be. It’s really good, very drinkable. Thick but not heavy. Repeats welcome!

Draft at the brewery. Pours dark opaque brown with a fizzy tan head. Tastes like coffee beans, burnt toast, and alcohol Smells like cereal and coffee. Medium body and medium carbonation.

Milk chocolaty goodness. Smooth. No alcohol hotness. Pours pitch with samml ring of tan head. Aromas of bosco and some hoppy resins. Very nice balance. All flavor no flash.

Somewhat hoppier, significantly boozier, version of an Irish dry stout. Maltier than a Guinness, but comporable malt wise to some craft dry Irish stouts I’ve had with that same flavor of sweet malt they usually have, and of course some roasted malt present also.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a small head that quickly fades. Pleasant aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Taste is very disappointing though. There is some chocolate and caramel there but it’s buried below a sweet sugar water taste. Bitter coffee shows up in the finish but it’s still so sweet and off-putting. Thin and watery mouthfeel. Not very good.

Aroma is roasted coffee and not much else, poured light and dark with an attractive golden head that faded very fast. As expected, the taste from sip to swallow is coffee, hints of chocolate and a vague (but inoffensive) malty sensation. This is perfectly nice, and given the price I think I’d probably drink it again. Heavy Seas are good at brewing enjoyable, affordable craft beers.

From a 12 fl. oz. bottle notched Jul 2013. Serving around 55 degrees. The pour is charcoal black to jet black with a quickly fading tan head. Aroma of roasted dark malts, baking chocolate, and Amarillo with a slight hop presence. The body is thinner than I like my stouts but still around medium. The taste has many dark and sweet characteristics up front with a lingering mild bitterness. A nice Stout but it may be ambitious to put this in the Imperial Stout category.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Black with a nice tan head, OK lacing. Aroma is not too strong and it is mostly of roasted malts and some hints of coffee and chocolate. Taste is consistent, smokey, sweet and malty some coffee and booze. Not bad but not the greatest either.

Light roasted flavor with a thin head that fades but stays somewhat. Sweet flavor easy to drink notes of chocolate very slight hint of coffee not bitter at all. However, this was a bottle which had sat for 10 months which made it much better.

Poured into lion stout Tulip glass a dark brown, medium/large tan head that lasted. Aromas of roasted malts, molasses, burnt coffee and dark chocolate. Taste was surprisingly light for a imperial stout, dry and a light bitter finish. This beer went well with my Corned Beef dinner.

Black as night and an intense flavour marked by molasses and caramel. Quite sweet actually.
