COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Heavy Seas, we brew a traditional English-style pale ale with our own East Coast twist: UK Fuggles and Goldings dominate the flavor of Powder Monkey, but has subtle notes of citrus and flower from Cascade hops added in the boil and hopback. Brass in color, Powder Monkey, like all of our beers, is well balanced: distinct bitterness and a slight malt sweetness characterize the taste. In 2010, it won a bronze medal at the World Beer Cup; in 2008, it won a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival.

Bland! Ok malty aroma. Average light copper pour w/ a thin white head that leaves little lacing. The taste is all malt but way too clean. There isn’t really much flavor at all. Decent mouthfeel but I’m not really feeling this one at all!

Transfer from BA review on 9-3-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a golden-orange color with a tiny white head. The head fades fast to give only a light level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is quite light and consists of a biscuit smell with a light citrus and caramel smell mixed within. Taste – The taste begins bready and malty. It is soon meet with flavors of earthy hops as well as a lighter light fruit flavor. Flavors of caramel come to the tongue. More toward the end, some hop flavors come to the tongue. These flavors are largely of a citrus and earthy nature, which in the end, leave a slightly hoppy, yet more crisp and bready, flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer and the carbonation level were both quite average. Nothing special, but fine for the style. Overall – Decent pale ale that is rather easy to drink, but nothing to go out of your way for.

Pours a clear amber on the darkish side with a thick and fairly persistent pale buff head. Aroma is not strong, but the malty and subtle fruity notes promise an at least palatable beer. Flavor is mainly malty, while subtle fruity and woody hop tones take their turn on the palate. Texture is thin but fairly fizzy. Get your monkey powdered.

Very pale orange color; light and very see-through. The aroma is very "English": sugary malts, very pronounced yeast presence in the nose. The hops are of the flower/pollen variety. Flavor is yeast-forward: bready, dry malts. Hops are strictly Euro/bittering stuff. Not a ton of character in the hops, but adherent to the British pale traditions. Chewy texture. Miles away from an American pale. It’s not chock full of flavor but it is not devoid of flavor either. A nice English session pale considering it’s filler in a 12er.

English style means full bodied and earthy with aggressive pine hops instead of bright west coast citrus. Well done beverage.
