COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Heavy Seas, we brew a traditional English-style pale ale with our own East Coast twist: UK Fuggles and Goldings dominate the flavor of Powder Monkey, but has subtle notes of citrus and flower from Cascade hops added in the boil and hopback. Brass in color, Powder Monkey, like all of our beers, is well balanced: distinct bitterness and a slight malt sweetness characterize the taste. In 2010, it won a bronze medal at the World Beer Cup; in 2008, it won a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival.

hotstuff (3912) - Indiana, USA - MAR 22, 2014
Rated on 9-30-2010 (Bottle) This beer has a small fizzy ivory head that mostly diminishes, transparent gold body, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aromas are caramel malt, earthy, citrus, floral hops, and fruity. The taste is lightly bitter, caramel malt, earthy, citrus hops, and fruity. The palate is soft carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This beer is quaffable and not overly hoppy tasting. It has a little bit of a bitter aftertaste, but not in a bad way.

Sikash (230) - North Carolina, USA - MAR 9, 2014
Pours a clear copper/amber color with a fizzy white head. Aroma is light and malty. Flavor seems a little off. I can get some malt and caramel but I feel like I may be getting some diacyteal. Mouthfeel is okay and carbonation is average. Overall an okay pale ale.

Bottle. Pours clear copper with a medium sized white head. There is decent retention and slight lacing on the glass. The aroma has some floral notes, a bit of citrus, and a bit of a adjunct note. The taste is a bit malty, slightly bitterness, almost lagerish.

Caramel malt and fruity, flowery hops in the aroma. Flavor starts sweet and a little bready, with some citrus and flowery hop bitterness in the finish. Nothing spectacular, but a perfectly fine beer.

This is a nice English ale. There are subdued hops, well blended with a strong malty base.

2oz sample at International Great Beer Expo (Meadowlands). Pours golden in color with a small white head. Aroma of old citrus, caramel, and sweet grain. Taste is very blah. Same as aroma. Old citrus, light caramel, and sweet grain. Eh

Leighton (9833) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 25, 2013
Draft at GBBF 2013 - London. Pours clear gold with a light, creamy head. Doughy and lightly buttery malts abound with fine, rindy lemon bitterness. Light in body with fine carbonation. Doughy malts to finish, little else. Not altogether bad but pretty uninspiring.
