COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Heavy Seas, we brew a traditional English-style pale ale with our own East Coast twist: UK Fuggles and Goldings dominate the flavor of Powder Monkey, but has subtle notes of citrus and flower from Cascade hops added in the boil and hopback. Brass in color, Powder Monkey, like all of our beers, is well balanced: distinct bitterness and a slight malt sweetness characterize the taste. In 2010, it won a bronze medal at the World Beer Cup; in 2008, it won a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival.

tasted at Blacksburg Brew Do - well balanced on the palate with hops and malt present, interesting addition of cascade hops to what would otherwise taste like a traditional english IPA

Pours a clear amber on the darkish side with a thick and fairly persistent pale buff head. Aroma is not strong, but the malty and subtle fruity notes promise an at least palatable beer. Flavor is mainly malty, while subtle fruity and woody hop tones take their turn on the palate. Texture is thin but fairly fizzy. Get your monkey powdered.

Cask at Rattle n Hum. Pours golden orange with a white head. Moderate floral hops, pale malts base, and hints of sweetness. Balanced and drinkable.

Very pale orange color; light and very see-through. The aroma is very "English": sugary malts, very pronounced yeast presence in the nose. The hops are of the flower/pollen variety. Flavor is yeast-forward: bready, dry malts. Hops are strictly Euro/bittering stuff. Not a ton of character in the hops, but adherent to the British pale traditions. Chewy texture. Miles away from an American pale. It’s not chock full of flavor but it is not devoid of flavor either. A nice English session pale considering it’s filler in a 12er.

English style means full bodied and earthy with aggressive pine hops instead of bright west coast citrus. Well done beverage.

transparent tea, thin white ring, decent lacing. dusty, lightly skunky grain nose. Dirty, bubble gum sugary front palate, heavy toast across flat mid before slick paper finish, muted and watery with sugar and spent grain lasting briefly.

Seems like a mildly hoppy copper ale. Hoppier than the average English pale ale, but with the same mild, easily quaffable character.

Drank from bottle. Smells of bread, nuts, and hops. Taste is a little dry, not as dry as I was expecting, but I was also not expecting an English style pale ale when I bought it. It is a solid beer.

Pours a diluted Amber with an off white head. Aroma is musty. Taste is earthy and lots of bread. Medium to light mouth feel.

Nice beer for the malt lovers. Has the attributes of. Nice Irish Red with lots of malt. The flavor has the malt with just a bit more hops than expected.

Poured from a cask. Hazy golden color, large creamy head. Light hop malt and hop aroma. Medium creamy mild floral hops flavor with a smooth finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
