This yearís Siren Noire Imperial Chocolate Stout has been revamped. Weíve aged it for three weeks in bourbon barrels, which gives the beer darker notes of raisin and fig. Weíve also tripled the amount of chocolate nibs and added vanilla bean. A mix of dark malts gives Siren Noire a well-rounded body that is decidedly chocolateyóbut without being extraordinarily sweet. Mt. Hood hops contribute a fruity hop profile, with notes of black currant.

Boubony cocoa scent. Nice head dark black color. Toasty cocoa coffee notes with a nice Bourbony finish. Like silk on the palate. Delicious....ted if you get this were hanging at jims later.

Bottle. Sweet milk chocolate, light oaky bourbon, and caramel aroma. Black with a small tan head. Sweet milk chocolate, woody spicy bourbon flavor. It was nice that the bourbon was understated and didnít overpower the beer. Full body, average carbonation.

Pours a clear, dark crimson-brown, with a finger of quckly fading, light tan head. Nose is of brown sugar, vanilla, sweet rum, and sweetened chocolate. Taste starts with Oreo cookie, bourbon, and transitions into caramel and toffee, with some bitter chocolate and lightly nutty finish. Body is on the lighter side. In my opinion, this beer has a great nose, and a great taste at the start, but the taste dies off rather quickly, and I almost immediately forget how good the beer tastes in the beginning.

Bottle. Nice pour with medium head. Good mouth feel. Heavy on the choc side. Typical of imperial stout style. Warm alcohol taste. Good over all beer.

Bottle. Poured black color with an average creamy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon, woody and small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a rich smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted sweet chocolate cream and bourbon flavor with a medium to heavy sweet smooth finish of moderate to long duration. Another solid brew.

Cask at Churchkey. Poured a dark, pretty opaque black color with a nice extremely small tan head. Aroma is some chocolate malts, plenty of bourbon notes in this one. Flavor is dark chocolates, touch of roasted malts all smoothed out by a nice bourbon character. Quite a nice beer.

Cask. Pours opaque black with thin, fizzy tan head; decent retention and spare lacing. Aroma is caramel and cookie malts, toffee, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, oak, floral hops, figs, and plums. Flavor is heavy dark fruit esters and sweet malts forward with supporting oak, bourbon, light floral hops, and light chocolate; dry finish. Med/full body and low carbonation.

Reviewed 2/23/13. 22 oz bottle poured into a plastic cup. Yeah. Keep in mind I had this one JUST after sampling some BCBS. A: Pours an ultra-dark brown color that isnít particularly thick looking. The head is a less-than-one finger khaki shade. Obviously the retention wonít be particularly good, but it at least tries to leave nice lacing on the cup. S: Whilst itís very good, itís not as gorgeously rich as I expected. Thereís some subtle chocolate, mocha, licorice, and vanilla. One has to REALLY concentrate to find the bourbon - but itís there...I suppose. T: Quite sweet. I like the dark chocolate in the midtaste, before it becomes a combination of mocha and bittersweet vanilla. I didnít expect much depth, but there is a nice bit of subtle complexity to it. M: This seems a bit thin to me. The aftertaste is a little less sweet than I expected (but, itís still dessert in a glass) and almost comes off like an imperial porter due to the lack of creamy and roasty qualities. Itís carbonated finely. O: Itís a damn shame this had to follow BCBS, because this is still quite good as a dessert beer. Iíd compare it favorably to Ballast Pointís Victory at Sea - a sweet, vanilla-and-chocolate laden offering that fits the cold, nasty Maryland day to a tee. It could have really used more bourbon presence, though.

This was one of the better chocolate beers Iíve had. Nice smooth dark chocolate flavor with a slight bitter malt flavor, I thought I tasted a little cherry too. Very good

This beer is velvety smooth with a very full mouth feel. Tastes of dark chocolate and a slight caramel finish

2013 batch. 22 oz bomber purchased for an extremely reasonable $5.49. Poured into a DFH signature glass. A - Pours a deep dark black body with three fingers worth of dense light tan foam. Fades away gradually but leaves behind excellent lacing with some seriously long retention. Looks great! S - Milk chocolate, vanilla, and cocoa powder. Not getting any bourbon notes but it does smell like a nice chocolate stout. T - Smooth milk chocolate, slightly robust malts, and a lingering sweet vanilla. Like the nose this has little to no bourbon presence...really just a faint nod towards oak on the finish. It is quite tasty though. M - Light to medium bodied, just a tad below being creamy. Carbonation is about spot on. O - "...aged in bourbon barrels" is the killer here. Iím getting so little bourbon presence that Iíd swear its just the base beer. However this is a damn tasty and affordable stout albeit its a bit on the thin side.
