4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: Pitch black body with a short khaki head, the head dissipates into a soft coating with a tall ring on the edges.
Aroma: The aroma is complex and mildly sweet. I pick up chocolate, coconut and bourbon, but all are very well balanced, incredibly enjoyable but a bit weak in strength. What a shame!
Taste: Wow, what a complex and balanced stout. Chocolate and coconut are the big flavors I get here, like an almond joy. There’s a light overlying creamer/vanilla flavor and a subtle roasted coffee and a mild spice prickle presence on the finish. Very well done, this is a very nicely balanced barrel aged stout.
Palate: Thick and mildly carbonated.
Overall: This is one of the best bourbon barrel stouts that I’ve had. Lots of nuances and great balance. This is truly a treat!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hmm...well I’m back for the updated version. I have to say, I’m not overwhelmed; I wanted to be blown away by this oak-aged stout, but there is something unfortunate going on--it doesn’t meld well. The flavors don’t harmoniously blend, but exist as distinct, separate elements. Not a horrible ale--yet--didn’t meet my relatively high expectations.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a thick black with bubbly cream colored head. Nose of bourbon barrel vanilla sweetness and chocolate malts. Taste follows, slightly boozy with tannic wood masked by sweetness. Solid but was kind of hoping for more.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle pours a rich velvety black that allows precisely zero light through with a big frothy tan head. Light roast coffee notes with hints of cocoa and coconut. Not much bourbon on the nose. Taste is smooth roasty coffee light cocoa notes with faint coconut. Bourbon is a bit more present in the taste. Need to get another bottle and let it sit for a year a so.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with one finger of bubbly beige head into a snifter. No light comes through, even when held up to the light.
Chocolate, bourbon and fig are all present in the nose. Quite nice.
Bourbon hits first, with bittersweet chocolate strongly riding in the background throughout. Boozy at the end.
Slick mouthfeel, not super carbonated. Pretty good stout.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Lazy Dog. Pours a dark brown with a sliver of light showing at the bottom of the glass with a slim layer of toffee colored head. Aroma comes off a bit in your face/nose with the coffee and chocolate wrestling with the boozy oak notes. Taste of pleasant chocolate with an alcohol undercurrent. Nicely unexpected.

Keg @ Sedona. Deep brown tiny head. The nose is pretty nutty. Loads of burnt caramel-roasted chestnut. Toffee, cocoa. Inky ashes wood, licorice. Dark chocolate flavors. Slight heat. Brown sugar. Full body, smooth. Actually pretty tasty.
