3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle from Harrika’s Brew Haus.(Vintage 2014) Amber hue, murky clarity with one finger thick somewhat diminishing off-white head. Excellent lacing. Heavy citrus hop and light floral aroma’s. Heavy acidic citrus and earth flavor up front with a light lasting hop finish. Lively carbonation, medium body and oily on the palate. I did not get any of the oak from this, I did get more floral tastes once this warmed a bit. Meh!!

On tap half pint at Gilly's Beer & Fine Wine in Rockville, MD.
Lightly hazy, dark copper with a khaki head and legs, but only fair lacing.
Aroma of muted fruity and citric hops and caramel.
Taste of pine, muted fruity and citric hops, caramel, booze and oak.
Full/medium body and medium carbonation.
As much a hoppy barleywine as it is a double IPA.

Bottle from hmmm, I forget. Either triangle wine our the beer dispensary Apex. Ok aroma. Fresh oak. Vanilla. Some hops. On the Orange side. Tad h azed brownish orange. Real good head And lace. Bitter sweet flavor. Heavy body creamy oily mouthfeel. Bitter Finish. Meh I wasn’t fully trading the label when I grabbed this. I’m not liking these Oaked ipa for the most part and once again the oak is killing the hops. Appearance best part. Looked nice on the glass.

Too malty. Where’s the hops? Where’s the beef? Did the badgers or wildcats eat it?

Draft Sample. Pours a copper/amber color with a moderate white head. Piney aroma with hints of Oak. Taste follows, with oak notes and light toffee tones. Not syrupy sweet as some DIPAs can be.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aromas of citrusy hops, caramelized malt, subtle orange candy, and a touch of coconut. Clear sunset orange with a mostly lasting white head. Initial flavors of caramel and coconut-wrapped bitterness, hops are very dominant, but levels of malt, wood, and booze are well received. Medium bodied, complex but not over the top. A great sipping beer with the impression of a traditional old ale in hop-steroids.

Tasting notes of grapefruit citrus, pine/resin, subtle oak, bitter piney hops, sweet malt. Medium body with a semi-dry and sticky finish. Low to medium carbonation. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. The oakiness is a bit understated.
