4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a somewhat thick white head. Nose has some very hoppy elements to it in more of the resin/grass family, and seems very inviting. Taste is a little bit bitter, but the oakiness comes through nicely as a good complement to the beer. Very interesting...

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz. bomber. Hazy orangish amber with a thin off-white head and really good lacing. Smell is caramel, raisins, piney hops, citrus, and definitely oak and vanilla come through as well. Taste is big, lots hops and caramel. Also the oak and bittering hops play well off each other, with the vanilla and caramel notes lingering on the tip of the tongue. Has many of the characteristics of a barleywine, big and complex. Noticeable alcohol, but not as a negative. Has a big beer mouthfeel that coats your palate in between sips. This is a good one.

This was one delicious double ipa. Very heavy beer with a thick feel. Poured a dark golden almost orangish color. Very happy with a big malt backbone perfectly balanced

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2013 bottling. Pours fairly crystal clear orange copper color with a 2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of big orange zest, orange rind, tangerine, grapefruit, caramel, floral, light pine, oak, honey, toast, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of hop flavors; with a very balanced malt backbone and light-moderate oak presence. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, tangerine, orange rind, floral, light pine, grass, caramel, honey, oak, toast, and floral earthiness. Light floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus rind, caramel, floral, grass, pine, honey, oak, toast, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of hop and malt flavors; with a very balanced malt backbone with oak that isn’t overdone, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and fairly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice oak aged DIPA. All around great balance and nice complexity of hop/malt/oak flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: pours a nice amber color with a light tan head. Aromas are fruity and citrusy hops, with a splash of hops. Taste is nice, pine and citrus from the hops, oakiness and finishes clean. This is very nice! Refreshing alternative to lots of other oaked beers.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aromas of citrusy hops, caramelized malt, subtle orange candy, and a touch of coconut. Clear sunset orange with a mostly lasting white head. Initial flavors of caramel and coconut-wrapped bitterness, hops are very dominant, but levels of malt, wood, and booze are well received. Medium bodied, complex but not over the top. A great sipping beer with the impression of a traditional old ale in hop-steroids.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap. This year’s Big DIPA is aged with oak spirals, which I believe warrants a separate entry.. Clear red-orange color. Good, thin creamy off-white head, good retention, leaves good lace. Bigger body. Good, smooth creamy texture. Nice earthy, herbal hops.. Nice light caramel malt, which is noticeable but takes a backseat to the hops. Definitely tastes like there’s oak wood influence in here, which works nicely with the beer. Still assertive, smooth, and drinkable. More bitter than sweet. Alcohol not noticeable, very drinkable for 10.5%, works well with the flavor. Very tasty stuff.

Bomber from Wegman’s Lake Manassas. Pours a clear copper color with a thin frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of wood, spicy, citrus and herbal hops, pale biscuit malts with just a touch of caramel. The taste is citrus hops, candied citrus, caramel malts, wood. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, moderate lingering bitterness and a good bit of sweetness. Almost too much. Decent.

Bottle (2014) poured into a tulip. Pours a dark amber color with a finger of off-white to slightly yellow head. Nice webby lacing. Aromas of citrus, caramel, light oak, resin, floral notes. Tasting notes of grapefruit citrus, pine/resin, subtle oak, bitter piney hops, sweet malt. Medium body with a semi-dry and sticky finish. Low to medium carbonation. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. The oakiness is a bit understated.
