COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When we decided to resurrect the Big DIPA, we knew that we needed to make it bigger and better. We’ve brought the beer back with the same 10.5%ABV as before, the same massive amounts of hops as before, but this time, we’ve aged it on oak spirals. Oak spirals suspended in solution allow more surface area to come into contact with the beer increasing the oak presence without increasing exposure time. This results in a smoother oak flavor and further compliments the extraordinary hop characteristics. Cheers!

Heavy Seas Big Dipa from a bomber sold at Giant Eagle Westerville. This beer pours a hazy copper with a thick head of off white small to medium bubbles which disappear quickly. Nose is citrus hops with just a hint of oak. Taste is bright citrus hops with a touch of evergreen on the back of the taste. body is medium lively and fluid. Finish is just a touch of sweet honey with medium good bitters.

A delicious DIPA from Heavy Seas! One of the first beers that I tasted from this brewery and boy did they set the bar high!

8oz Tap pour. Red color with a super white head. Smells a little oaky. Has a nice light bubbly mouth feel. Taste is rich, with a bit of caramal, alcohol-like, and a strong hoppy aftertaste that makes you want to drink more to wash it away.

Refrigerated brown bomber 2014, extra from Drake, poured into a snifter. Pours clear amber with small off-white head. Aroma is oaky, medium body, lower carbonation, and some small bubble lacing. Taste is herbal hops and oaky. Alcohol is pretty well covered and drinks pretty easy for such a high abv.

I received this in a trade, 2014 bottle. The appearance has a nice semi-dark brown color with a slight ruby edge to it. There is a one and a half finger white foamy head that hangs around for a good minute and once it starts to die has a nice luscious and thick foamy lacing gracing the sides of the glass. The smell basically has a ton of caramel up front. I do get a slight oaky/wood aroma hanging amidst some light bitter hop characteristics. The taste has a super smooth sweet caramel character resting upon a decent bitterness trying to invade my taste buds. The aftertaste has some sharpness from the bitter hops along with a decent medium amount of caramel malts. There is a quick dry finish. On the palate, she sits about a medium on the body with a decent slightly oily texture to it. The carbonation is noticeable for the DIPA style and is pretty good to me. Overall, for a DIPA, I would say sessionability is not quite there, but that’s ok with me because I see the ABV on this beer and I would say it probably really is that percentage as I’m starting to feel the effects. In my opinion, this beer is well worthy of coming back to.

Bottle 2014. Light hazy copper, golden head. Fresh citric and piney hop notes. Light caramel roasted base, nicely restained barrel notes. Slightly sticky/resinny on the palate, light sparkly, dry grass/pine/herb finish

On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: Slightly hazy amber-copper body with a tall dense tan head.
Aroma: The aroma shows a big complex body of bready malts, caramel, toast and orange juice. A hint of booze is noted.
Taste: Moderately bitter with a firm malt base. The malts lay a bready slightly toasty and caramel base with an orange juice to grapefruit overlying bitterness that finishes mildly dry and floral.
Palate: Full-bodied, mildly carbonated.
Overall: Pricey and decent at best. This is a nice beer but it doesn’t hold a candle to other imperial IPAs at this price point and ABV.

22 oz bottle from Harrika’s Brew Haus.(Vintage 2014) Amber hue, murky clarity with one finger thick somewhat diminishing off-white head. Excellent lacing. Heavy citrus hop and light floral aroma’s. Heavy acidic citrus and earth flavor up front with a light lasting hop finish. Lively carbonation, medium body and oily on the palate. I did not get any of the oak from this, I did get more floral tastes once this warmed a bit. Meh!!

MadRobin (1829) - Silver Spring, USA - APR 16, 2014
On tap half pint at Gilly's Beer & Fine Wine in Rockville, MD. Lightly hazy, dark copper with a khaki head and legs, but only fair lacing. Aroma of muted fruity and citric hops and caramel. Taste of pine, muted fruity and citric hops, caramel, booze and oak. Full/medium body and medium carbonation. As much a hoppy barleywine as it is a double IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from hmmm, I forget. Either triangle wine our the beer dispensary Apex. Ok aroma. Fresh oak. Vanilla. Some hops. On the Orange side. Tad h azed brownish orange. Real good head And lace. Bitter sweet flavor. Heavy body creamy oily mouthfeel. Bitter Finish. Meh I wasn’t fully trading the label when I grabbed this. I’m not liking these Oaked ipa for the most part and once again the oak is killing the hops. Appearance best part. Looked nice on the glass.

Tap at Lazy Dog. Pours an amber with a slight amount of off white head. Aroma of hops with hints of booze. Taste of booze with only the slightest hints of hops.
